Alonjar: sycraft: I feel no sympathy for people who think they are too good for the rules like this lady did. You get told to turn off your phone, like everyone else? Just do it. You are not that important. If you don't, ya they are going to kick you off. If you get belligerent, then yes you are getting arrested.

Also better to deal with an aggressive person on the ground then have to put up with it in flight.

Or just do what everbody else does, and pretend to turn your phone off and promptly begin using it again when the stewardess has walked away.

The fact that they chose to make a scene rather than do what I suggested implies the issue at hand was not, in fact, a cell phone, but rather somebody who wanted to make a scene.  So.. she got exactly what she wanted.

When your culture preaches defying authority, do what you want at the expense of all others, being louder than everyone else is the way to win arguments, money and power are all that matters, and historically you are disenfranchised and owed the world, it is no wonder you get losers like this. However, upon ever criticizing this, the race card is played making any further commentary or discussion racist. For those with a political agenda, riding that bandwagon is the easiest votes and support you could possibility hope for. I mean, you could do drugs in DC or swindle your entire city out of money and STILL be a hero.

Counter-point: there was a second person who said "yes, enforcing this rule is worth my time and everyone else's.

People need to chill. While the cell phone rule is all kinds of stupid, the flight crew doesn't get to make the call on it. They are told "This is a rule you have to enforce," they really don't have a choice. Over all, you want it that way. The flight crew are not some extremely well educated experts on aircraft. You don't want them deciding what flight safety rules are and are not worth following. You don't want a "Just leave the handle alone Cletus, it isn't like it'll matter if the door comes open, I have no doors on my truck and it is fine!" situation. It is up to the FAA to change the rule (which they should, like 10 years ago) and until then it is reasonable for the flight crew to do as they are told and enforce it.

I sort of hope they keep the no cell phone rule. Can you imagine having that lady sitting next to you talking on her cell phone the entire flight.

Has anyone else noticed that the fine, upstanding citizen who recorded the footage also did not turn off their cell phone?

If he got caught and was asked to turn it off, chances are he would have.  Not act like a self-absorbed child like that lady. There is no excuse for that type of behavior, period.  If I were on that plane, I would have told her to shut the hell up after the second f-bomb was dropped.

Sucks going on the no fly list and being reduced to having to ride the train or bus.

/on the bonus side, one less idiot in the airports

I could not even finish the video. What an idiot. I can't wait til I see her child in school. Unless there is another adult who has taught him that the world doesn't spin around him, he'll be spending all sorts of time in the In School Suspension room.

I particularly liked the "I don't care if people need to go somewhere" comment. Kinda done in one.

Child? More like CHILDREN. That is the norm for people such as this eloquent young female. Really though, the school can do whatever they want considering the message today is that accountability and responsibility do not exist and that it is everyone else's job to take care of you and your offspring.

bigworld2000: Do they put people who do this shiat on the no-fly list?

No. They don't expect her to vote or interfere with politics.

bigworld2000: There's some justice in knowing that any time in the next 50 years, when ever  Lindsay Capri Bien-aim is Googled by a potential employer, friend, boyfriend, or neighbor this is what will come up. No matter what kind of person she was up until now, in four short minutes she just defined her life.  Good luck, lady.

I am shocked, completely SHOCKED!!!  A black person?  No F'n way!  Unruly, causing a major scene, cussing up a storm with kids around, ruining everyone else's schedules for the day......a black person?!  Shocked!

meh.  Don't fly, so I don't have to deal with this.  Couple friends went to a conference a few months back, and with the horror stories each had about flying, they decided to put in for a day extra on either side of the conference, for travel time.  They went by train.

The rules may be stupid, have no basis in reality, yet we all have to abide by them.  You can biatch about lemmings all you want, but the consequences are obvious if you don't follow the rules.  She got what she had coming, and she chose the path less traveled.

/the guy who stepped in to help the officers probably had to take a later flight, having to give a statement for helping out

OnlyM3: So after fark spent 30 pages defending an overweight actor doing the same thing, fark hates this woman?

Consistency counts.

If you are referring to Kevin Smith

I have no clue what your referring to about Kevin Smith, in fact I couldn't pick him out of a lineup. I was referring to farktards falling over themselves to defend Alec Baldwin's tirade on a plane.

I don't care what the rule is or how much you disagree.  On a plane your attention and adherence to flight crew instructions could directly affect my life and will directly affect my comfort on the plane.  If you feel you are being unfairly treated shut the f up and file a lawsuit.

My guess is that she was asked to stop talking on her phone, as in loudly yammering into it.

Usually not a big fan of police but they gave her every single out possible and she decided to go they felony assault on an officer route.

I wonder if they decided not to taser out of respect and safety of her child sitting next to her.

grokca: sycraft: gsiofa: I always thought they tell you to turn everything off to try and force you to pay attention to the safety announcement, and to have a better chance at successfully communicating instructions to passengers if the plane is in trouble.

No, because if that was the reason they'd require you to put down books and magazines as well, which they don't. There was a concern that electronics could interfere with the avionics and communications systems in airplanes, back in the day. Well when it comes to airplanes crashing, you err on the side of caution. However, technology advances, and not only are planes much better shielded, but we can measure all this stuff. So we can, and have, checked to see if there's any interference issues and not, there's not, not even if the whole plane is using electronic devices (RF doesn't work in an additive fashion as most think). It has been carefully studied and checked by the airlines, the FCC, and so on. However the FAA is being stubborn, mostly at this point because it is a "We don't want to admit we were wrong," thing since literally 10 years ago or more all the studies has been done on this.

It also really isn't that necessary to make people pay attention. First time fliers tend to be nervous and will listen intently. Those of us that have flown a lot can, literally, recite the whole thing from memory.

I only pay attention if the stewardess is hot.

At last. The voice of reason.

She deserves to be arrested just for making it obvious she's making a fuss just to hurt everyone else on the plane.
