There are plenty more people like this in the U.P. and in the thumb of Michigan.

I used to know of people who lived in a shack in the middle of nowhere. There was about a dozen of them in this little place, and they resembled the creepy hick freak family from X-Files. You know the ones I'm talking about.

Michigan has a lot of woods, wide-open spaces, and area where there's nothing or nobody for miles. It's pretty easy to drop off the grid here; There's no lack of fresh water, we have ample game and great land for farming... It's a good place to disappear if you want.

A realtor was walking a friend and me through properties in the UP a few years ago. And right in the middle of one plot was what looked like Ted Kaczynski's cabin.

"Is that the owner's shack?"

"No, the land belongs to a paper company. That's just some guy living out here."

"Ummm, I think we've seen enough here. Let's go look a different property."

I don't see what the problem is. The fellow either gets a deal for a reality show now, and money. Or he get to teach 'Hillbilly' courses at the local strip mall college. Either way, win win. He also gets to learn about cancer.

Yeah.  Guess what, douche, THEY don't recognize that you don't recognize them having authority.  Guess who has the mussel to back it up?

Noah's father, David Bryan Boyce, does not recognize government authority.
In 2011, the family was forcibly removed from their Jackson County property after refusing to pay taxes, according to the Jackson Citizen Patriot.

That's what I don't understand about crazy assed idiots like this.  I can understand someone believing that's how things SHOULD be.  But how mental do you have to be to think that  you can...  Well, win or in any way come out ahead.

Take this idiot; if he had just paid his taxes, he could have stayed out in the woods being crazy.

I would have gotten a new realtor right then and ask him, "Why the fark would you show me that property to start with and think that would slide?"

I always figured if there was a zombie apocalypse the first thing I would do is move back to Michigan. I grew up in the sticks so i know the land. Everywhere around me are farms and orchards so food isn't a problem. We also have a huge Amish community so they have plenty of tools and experience living off grid. I also know all the Militia types so guns and ammo is no problem.  And really, what kind of zombie is going to go looking for people in the backwoods of nowhere?

\prob moving back anyway

The Truth Comes Out: Former IRS Director Admits Taxes Are Voluntary May 24, 2013,

Government Steve Miller, former Director of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), admitted at a Congressional hearing that the taxes collected by the IRS are not mandatory - but voluntary. When questioned at the House Ways and Means Committee (WMC) hearing last week, Miller told House Representative Devin Nunes that "America's tax system is 'voluntary'". When Nunes remarked for clarification that the US tax code is a "voluntary system", Miller said, "Agreed." House Representative Xavier Becerra commented that the ruse of the IRS is kept as a public confidence in the system scheme to keep Americans paying money to the IRS. Miller confirmed this is so. The shuffle at the IRS has landed Danny Werfel as the new acting director.

"A tax on land is unlawful," Boyce told the Patriot after the eviction. "It makes you a tenant, not an owner."

I wasn't aware you built that land. I could've sworn you got it for free just like everyone else on the planet. Your exclusive use of it denies everyone else's equal claim to that piece of land. That's why you pay land taxes - you took something that belonged to everyone for yourself alone, so you pay the government (who, in theory, represents everyone else) in return.

Dafuq? Why is this father not being charged with some kind of child abuse or neglect? Sounds like he needs a swift kick in the ass by the government he claims not to recognize. Pity they can't fall back on the "Man Without a Country" technique: strip him of his citizenship, put him on a ship headed to another country with no passport, and bar him from ever entering the US for the rest of his life.

Paying taxes is voluntary in the same way that following any law is voluntary. Break the law if you wish, but there are consequences.

Yeah, but you can believe Alex Jones conspiracy theories without, say, losing your house.  This guy took his delusions to the point that he's lost his land and kids.  That's a special kind of stupid.

No, rent would make you a tenant. FFS, what is wrong with people?

Besides, taxation is lawful. Call it unnatural, or immoral, or an abomination. Whatever. But it's lawful.

You didn't make that land, it was already there. Every human being had an equal right to it. You pay taxes so that the rest of us let you have exclusive use of something that you didn't make and that millions of other people could've just as easily used instead.
