I was always disappointed that the last scene of DS9 wasn't Morn looking at the camera and saying "Goodbye, Kids".

Well, the real terms aren't science fiction or fantasy anymore, anyways.  Now they're all under the umbrella of speculative fiction.  The problem is that the author used the wrong SF term.

Eh, SciFi and fantasy are two sides of the same coin. Let it slide.

Not sure how Community made the list though, even taking into account Remedial Chaos Theory.

JJ ABRAMS IS A HACK FOR GIVING THIS SHIAT TO US.  Besides the stupid ewok/jar-jar binks character, he has to make it even more annoying with LENS FLARES!

Wow, Zathras made the list, you don't hear much about B5 anymore. I do agree that Princess Bride, Community, Spongbob and the like are definitely NOT science fiction.

In my opinion, it is the other way around: Fantasy is a subset of Science-Fiction where the rule is that the laws of physic do not apply to everything, every time.

It is true that a lot of Science-Fiction violate the law of physic but they usually cover the facts with pseudo scientific explanations while fantasy says it is magic when it violates the laws of physic.

In any case, most action movies and tv shows routinely break the laws of physics without any explanations.

He lives in a pineapple under the sea. If you pay attention to the canon it's clear that fish society is the result of a nanotech singularity event where AI dust infected the wildlife.

Ya know what? I'm calling his one of the better endings in all of fiction, not just sci fi.

CruiserTwelve: The Princess Bride isn't science fiction, it's fantasy.

Neither is Game of Thrones... Sigh, at least it's a list that doesn't just have a single good entry and bunch of shiat that was slapped in there in order to meet the deadline. It's a pretty decent list, just shouldn't be labeled "science fiction".

Fano: CruiserTwelve: The Princess Bride isn't science fiction, it's fantasy.

Hence, SciFi ISN'T The Princess Bride or Game of Thrones. Sorry, many SciFI and fantasy writers are interchangeable, but that doesn't let these jackasses off the hook for labeling it one thing and throwing something completely different out there.

I've been saying for years that the real star of a good show is quite often the side character. Good side characters, when used well, can totally make a show work, even with strong main characters already in place. All of the best are there for some kind of comic relief, too.

I like the list. It isn't SciFi, no matter how some people try and claim that SciFi and fantasy are so intertwined, but it's a fun list. I don't think Hodor counts as "funny" though, it's the only word he knows, so they very seldom have him say it for comic reasons. I think Strax is my favorite on the list though, it's not just the laser monkeys and blowing shiat up that's consistent and funny, they forgot his issues identifying human gender and his inability to talk civilly. Even when he's on your side, he's threatening to rip your head off. Although it seems like multiple jokes, they all roll into the same joke: That he is woefully out of his element and really just belongs at the head of a bunch of armed infantry fighters with laser monkey support in the flanks.

2013-06-24 08:55:39 PM
Looks like they forgot a few sci-fi sidekick classics, like Dorthy's dog in The Wizard of Oz and the sled in Citizen Kane.

I will give you that, but it was just two episodes (4th season finale, being where the darkest timeline plays a big role). But I wouldn't put the show in the "science fiction" category. Just because nerds like it doesn't make it Sci Fi.

It really embraced Chris Tucker's particular style. I like when people finaly figure that out. It' like when they started having Gilbert Gottfried play characters that were total a-hole douchebags. It went perfect with his screaming bullshiat and made his characters fun to watch.

Ruby Rod really DOES kinda steamroll you, doesn't he? How much of that was ad-libbed, I wonder? Or at least not in the script?

Avatar (the real one, not the movie with the alien refugies from Blue Man Group) is fantasy, not sci-fi.

Also, Cabbage Man was eventually able to get his act together and form Cabbage Corp, which sadly got trashed again in Legend of Korra.  I love little inside jokes like that.  They really make the series fun.
