Not to downplay her talent at all (the times she's put up are incredible), but if she's still going at that pace in 2-3 years, then it'll be out of this world good.

Many teenage girls in cross country and track peak in their first 2-3 years of high school. I'll hope she does damn good though, like Allyson Felix did. I remember following her up through high school, same for Solinksy (whom I actually ran against), Ritz, Galen Rupp, and Alan Webb.

She's going to train with Alberto Salazar. She's got talent and drive - he'll help her make the most of it.

I did, especially since it appears as though she in in the lead in that picture.

I saw that picture and the name and immediately thought "fast white girl". Went to highschool with a chick with similar attributes in speed. She got a scholarship to Stanford based on academics and scholastic sports, primarily track & field, but I never heard her name again.

Huh - 20 some odd years later, she still holds at least one record at Stanford (400 m hurdles), and at least one top 10 for the school in another discipline. Pretty cool I guess.

She's training with Salazar, she's probably doped to the gills. Still, what she has achieved at that age in unbelievable.

None of those people had high school careers anywhere close to what Cain has already done.

The only comparable post 1970 runner is Lukas, and he isn't even in the sport any more.

Cite?

I can't think of a single Salazar coached runner with a positive test.

I didn't compare them.

For those not familiar with track and field, remember that track athletes don't generally peak until their mid-20's. Mary Cain's current PR for the 1500 (arguably her strongest event) is 4:04.62, which is only 7.5 seconds behind Mary Stanley's American record, and 14.2 seconds behind Qu Yunxia's world record. She already owns 5 American high school records (800, 1500, 5000, mile, 2 mile), and technically holds two more (she beat the current 1600 and 3200 marks with her mile and 2 mile times; as a mile is 1609.344 meters, she's faster than those recordholders too).

She's crazy-fast. She's arguably the most promising female middle-distance runner (some would argue the most promising regardless of gender) developing in the US right now. Barring a catastrophe, look for her in Rio in 2016 and wherever the IOC decides the 2020 games will be held.

Running while not doing anything else.  The most boring of all sports.

Spoken like someone who gets winded from walking up a flight of stairs.
