Has there been a wrestler's life that was not a tragedy?  Seems par for the course.

Ted Dibiase and Ricky Steamboat are doing okay. Granted, they both retired due to injury, but they're not crippled and not farked up.

Steve Austin and Shawn Micheals are doing fine.  I guess The Rock as well if you count him as a wrestler and not an actor.

Mark Henry. His retirement ceremony was not only touching, but it was everything I could have hoped for, and then some.

If anything is learned from this athletes should have something to fall back on after their career. Like Bruce Jenner became a Kadashian.

He went from T.V. start to reality T.V. star. Like every millionaire, he had a messy divorce, and his over 18 adult son farked up and killed someone while drinking and driving.

So, he had two shiatty months in his 30 years of awesome sauce. farking tragic.

Scott Steiner did this masterfully back in WCW...I dunno when, but forever ago...

I don't know what's sadder: this article, or the fact that the only thing in it that surprised me was that the Iron Sheik actually was from Iran.  I always figured he was just some Jersey guido putting on an accent.

He's also only slightly less crippled than the Sheik, and will work until he dies in the ring because he sucked at handling his money.

/Ric Flair, too.

You'd think McMahon would help the Sheik out with some of his medical needs here.

Guys like the Sheik are what helped make McMahon a multi millionaire.

Even if Vince *wasn't* a dick, Sheik is one of dozens of now-struggling pro wrestlers that helped the company become big back in the day. Sure, it seems like a compassionate thing to do to give money to Sheik, but what logical reason would keep the other hundred or so former superstars from asking for similar help?

Vince does a fair amount by offering free rehab to any former employee, as well as offering really generous legends contracts. I mean, they're paying Ric Flair something like half a million a year just so they can use his image in toys and video games. Similar deals for guys like Kevin Nash, Sean Waltman, Slaughter, Austin, etc. They certainly don't *have* to do that, but it keeps bad publicity away and does nice things for those guys.

Vince is a capitalist at heart. He doesn't believe in handouts, for better or worse. The merits of that are debatable, but it's his money and he can do what he wants. I would be willing to be that Sheik could get some cash out of him in exchange for likeness rights via a legends contract - because in Vince's mind that would be a mutually beneficial business deal - but I don't think Sheik wants to do that because it would mean giving up some freedom to do what he loves and he probably doesn't trust Vince.
