Institutional investors and feral hogs offer approximately the same amount of care to the environment in which they exist, so yeah, I think that's fair.

/take everything you can
//destroy that which you can't

So we need high capacity magazines for institutional investors now?  We're doing this now?  I must have missed a memo somewhere. ..

The "wall" on Wall Street was put in place to channel rampaging hogs as they were herded through NYC.  So nothing has changed.

One issue is simple, investors expect payback in nice steady quarterly increments while the major projects required for the business to stay competitive can take 12-18 months.  If the initial investment can't look negligible in the quarterly reports, then it will have a negative impact on the stock price.  This is when the truth is easy to spot:  the investors have no interest in the business staying competitive, only in increasing the value of their share in the short term.

I've always been curious what would happen if there were a required minimum time to hold a given stock of 2 years.  Wall street would hate it, but retirement funds would be fine.  Index funds would be fine.  Public companies would be able to take on major projects as easily as the private sector.

Whichever country implemented such a rule would have almost all of its money leave the country prior to such a rule going in to effect.  The entire financial system would likely collapse.  Something would emerge, but it would likely be based on barter, or around something other than stocks.
