(Chron)   A coworker had her house burglarized while her baby was at home with the sitter. Nobody was hurt, but she got some great video of it. Can you identify any of these guys?   (chron.com) divider line 89

If only there were some way for a person in Texas to protect their home and children.

Yeah, I bet the nanny could have totally taken those dudes in a potential gunfight.

Awesome! I have 7 cameras covering my entire house including basement and garage. The data gets uploaded to a website and the entire thing + router is on a UPS that should last a good 30-45 minutes if someone turns the power off. It was surprisingly inexpensive to get and I can run wires so I installed it myself. I think the whole shebang was less than $500 in parts (UPS included) and I can view any of the cameras on my android or iPad. Q-see branded from Costco.

Did they check to see if maybe someone in the Jiffy John saw them, or was there a nanny with a baby in there too?

I wanted to do the same, but have teenage daughters. The creepy factor was too much for me, so I spent the money on beer.

It's Texas, only a number matters. They'll just find the closest 2 (3 w/ driver) darkest colored people they can find and rubber stamp a guilty verdict on it. Case closed.

Tsk, as you must have realised from countless assertions in gun control threads, firearms are a universal equaliser.

I'd do the same thing if it wasn't for the fact that the security system would then be the most expensive thing in the house.

Just one small flaw in your hypothesis...

Typically people who are committing insurance fraud don't tell the media about it and release the video hoping to catch the guys.

If only there was some way to hang a video camera so it would show more than the top of a perp's head or ball cap.  WTF are people thinking when they invest in a security system that won't actually show faces or identifying features.  There are a plethora of devices that can be used to hide cameras more at face level where they might actually do some good.  Even banks and C-stores make this mistake.

2013-06-24 01:58:26 PM
My first assumption is that the burglars got a tip from the people working construction in front of the home.

THIS.  When I was a kid, my family's house was burglarized the week after construction on my dad's office.
Fark: The construction was to install a floor safe

The city of Houston has CUT the recreation budget for the past 3 years. They have nothing to do all summer, and unlike the wealthy suburban white kids, they can't afford to sign up for some camp.

Seems odd that they has a video camera rolling, but obviously only released a very small portion of the video:
- not the part where the car drove by and the driver's face & car front plate would have been visible;
- not the part where the perps left with a safe and might have been more likely to show their faces due to the range of body motions required to haul a safe and load it into the car.

I'm guessing if this is real, the cops already have everything they need to ID and convict.

Also, who puts up a camera to protect their driveway? It looks like there's a camera for the neighbor's driveway as well, maybe they got something.

It looks like there were multiple cameras covering different areas.  Here's a different link which has more footage.  Appears the news site edited out a bunch of stuff.
