Well played, subby, well played.

I admit, i saw that trailer probably 6 months ago, and i simply assumed Ellen Paige was hired for the role.   She might have a legitimate law suit on her hands, though i'm not sure there is a precedent....  They say its not supposed to be her, and she say it is... How can it be proven its supposed to look like her?

Or any other 19 year old girl walking in any of America's super-malls.

They already kinda admitted they did a while ago, and made changes so it wasn't nearly as obvious. Stop complaining Ellen, the character's probably the best acting you didn't do. Shut up and soak in the pub.

As I understand it, after the first trailer they changed her to match her actual motion capture actress more. So assuming that is true, all they'd have to do is bring her actual Mocap girl to trail and go "see?"

This is completely wrong.  They admitted that it wasn't supposed to look like Ellen Page, and that they realized it did halfway through the process and toned it down quite a bit.

I read a bunch of reviews that all said to start on the hardest difficulty to get the most out of the game. I think I might have to move down a notch. I'm not even very far, just the first building out of the safe area, and I can't make it past the Runners and the Clicker. Damn game...

/Oh, yeah, and I thought it was Ellen Page too until I checked IMDB.

So what if it is supposed to look like her? You can't have a copyright claim on cute, young, and slightly freckled. And I'd like to point out that the character looks more like the voice actress than Page.

To be fair, if you are where I think you are, that's pretty much the hardest encounter in the whole game.  No joke.  It's a pretty rough situation (though probably not the roughest overall) plus you're just getting used to the game's systems.  It's a recipe for disaster.  Almost quit at that point.  But it's all downhill from there.  Pretty sure they put it that early in the game just to troll people.

Hide in the room the patrolling runner does in.  Theres a respawning beer bottle spot that you can use to pull in the Runners or clicker one at a time.

What I did was go in, ninja the patroller, pop a bottle near the runner by the clicker, ninja him, go to the other door for the far left runner and drop bottles, ninja him.  Then I went back to the other door, threw a bottle pretty far into the other room to pull the clicker into los, and shot that bastard repeatedly.  It ended up not killing him cause the last one came in and started soaking shots, so I bolted out the other door, got to a corner, reloaded, bashed the last runners face in with the leadpipe you gear near the spawning point, stared down the clicker, faked him out and ran away to the far end of the hallway, and shot that creepy bastard til he went down.

Running is a really viable strat in the game, as soon as you break LoS you can go back into sneak mode.  The clickers also seem far slower than the runners so you get some seperation to handle the faster guys before the OMGKILLITWITHFIRE gets to you.

I remember that part and had a lot of difficulty with that as well.  If I remember correctly, the first guy is fairly easy to take out then hanging out in the office area (if you can sneak there) will allow you to take out the rest of the runners.  I also think that was the point of the game where I found out you can bash clickers' heads in with bricks.

In other news, two generic voice actresses playing similar roles for similar virtual characters in similar video games are confused with each other. One of them is indignant. For more details, don't bother to stay tuned.

The fact that the Ellen Paige's likeness is in another game, which came out a week earlier, and has been reviewed by a lot of people as 'meh'

So yeah, I'm guessing she's putting up a stink as the game that 'looks' like her is doing so well, while the one that is the resemblance ain't paying NEARLY as much.

I just beat the game last night. Near the end there is an area in the underground tunnels that made me want to throw the controller. Finally got past it, but yea, I know the area that you are at. I played it through at Normal the first time and it took a few tries. The building that is falling down, yea?

Oh yea, ALWAYS have a full shiv on-hand. Lots of locked doors and they always have goodies behind them.

So some actress is asked specifically about this resemblance in a Reddit thread, responds to that question saying she doesn't really like it, and that's worthy of a whole article and a bunch of angry comments?

Lots of sensitive people out there on the Interwebs today, I guess.

Truthfully it's already there, the difference is they're generating voice actors instead of Hollywood actors. Japan was ahead of the curve here with games like the Yakuza series, where the characters all had the faces of the actors who voiced them.

For a modern US equivalent, check out videos for inFAMOUS: Second Son. The main character and his brother are mo-capped and voiced by Troy Baker and Travis Willingham respectively, two rather popular VAs.

Page and Johnson don't look dissimilar in real life, but as you can see in the image above, there are enough differences that you wouldn't confuse them on the street. When their likenesses are converted into virtual forms

...

the team  "decided to modify Ellie's model to better reflect [actress] Ashley [Johnson]'s personality,

In other words, Ashley Page's likeness was not converted into virtual form.  The character model used for her character in the game is an artist's rendition, not a scan.  It just so happens to look like Ellen Page.

I eventually got past it by separating the big guys and sniping with the bow & arrow. I won't get into details so as to not ruin the game for others, but I will say that the game has an odd balance. Long stretches with no baddies at all and then BAM raped by a clicker.

I hate clickers.

The ending got me too. I am still mulling it over in my head. It really felt like there should've been a longer cutscene. I honesty expected something to show after the end credits, and when nothing did I was like ... "was that the BAD ending?"

That's the only ending, but to be fair, it makes a bit more sense if you listen to the casette that you find in the final area.  It doesn't change the deception, but it gives an out..

I stealthed through the entire final section of the game.  I didn't have to fight anything at all after Winter (well there were three in a tunnel, but they didn't count).  A couple of bottles and you're good.

I sneaked by that part with all the fatties, after dieing a few times,  I think I ended up only killing maybe 5 of the mobs in the way.  I agree with the balance issues, to a degree anyway.  Although, and not exactly sure how you meant the BAM comment, but I was actually disappointed that there were not more of what I would describe as BAM moments.  But I never really found at any point you had to really play that cautiously.  By not even half way through the game it seemed to so obvious where and when there would be a confrontation, and other than that you could just run full tilt checking what ever nook and cranny you wanted for random widgets.  I guess I would have liked a few more random mobs on at least a few levels hiding behind doors and such, but I guess that just wasn't the type of game they were going for.

I found Marlene's diary and both of her recorders. You know he is going to react a certain way, and so I can say the ending isn't that much of a surprise. Still, I think they could've done more to flesh out the aftermath.

For the girl character?

2013-06-24 07:09:21 PM
I finished it last week and saw the resemblance but knew it was not here.   I loved the game there were hard parts but I spent a lot of the ending of the game causing chaos.   I would snipe leave the dead body and then hide and take the guards that came out from the shadows.   Shivs and Molotovs are you friends.

As for the ending, it was pretty foreshadowed.   Ellie's presence made Joel confront the loss of Sarah.   In the end he was never going to let anything happen to Ellie as he felt he failed as a father with Sarah's death.    I had no problem killing them all, they would have come after Ellie and Joel's job now was to protect her.

It is one of my favorite games I played on the PS3.

I was all prepared to come in here hating for someone being a self obsessed snooty biatch.

Upon a cursory review of the evidence at hand:

The character name:  Ellie
Visual:
www.gameranx.com

Source(interview from last december):
http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/4210/article/naughty-dog-comment- on -the-last-of-us-ellie-character-design/
"Ellie is a sum design of many different references."

The character used to look even more like her, but it was dialed back.

The actress who voiced "Ellie" :
Ashley Suzanne Johnson
(Many know her from a child role as Chrissy Seaver)
static.webberid.com

Verdict:
They used her for inspiration.
Between the name and the appearance, and the intentionally vague answer, pretty undeniable.

She's maybe being petty.  It could easily have been written off as a compliment.

However, the game developers are just as bad in denying it. They knew she was actually in another competing game, knew theirs looked remarkably like her,  and just kept on trucking.

Extra verdict:
I already hate game developers, so much evil on their part. So I lay all blame at their feet.
