perfect ten is redundant.

Cewley: perfect ten is redundant.

I'd argue it's relevant here, since plenty of competitions no longer use that type of scoring system, and since the scoring system in surfing is not well-known.

That's a pretty impressive jump on a board.

Well, I think it's pretty awesome.

Same here. I've never seen a surfer get that much air in a competition before. I don't doubt that lots have done it, but I'm still impressed.

I know nothing about surfing.  I assume that was good?  Looked pretty good, I guess.

i'm not a surfer, never tried.  is that hard?  For a competitive snowboarder or skateboarder, that height and maneuver would be pedestrian, right?

Dude...
Do you know what you're talking about?
I don't know what you're talking about.

It's easy-ish to catch that much air, if you're reasonably experienced, have the right physique, and have decent surf. Most beaches have 1 or 2 locals that could go that high.

It's hard to go that high on surf that small. How high you go is a function of how fast you go, which in turn is dependent on how high your waves are.

LANDING that, and continuing to ride afterwards, is just sick. How he didn't go right off the back of the wave, I have no idea.

That was awesome 'cause first he was like, veeeerrrrr, then all of a sudden it was like, vooooshhhh-kapahhhhh, then it just went braaaaadangaugh-sploooosh!

The heigth might be pedestrian but the nearly 270 degrees of spin without using hands isn't. A snowboarder has the board strapped to their feet any way. A skater who can do a 270 ollie on near vert and land it isn't very pedestrian at all.

That air was out of control when you consider it's a 270 ollie air and he rides out.

Was that hard to do?  Didn't seem too difficult.  I could probably do that ..

maybe y'all joking, but the beauty of being is that is good is making it look easy.

I've never surfed, but I remember watching skate and snowboarding videos and getting so stoked, "Yeah, let's go do that. I can do that! Yeah, bro."

"Wait, this sh*t is hard." "I'm bleeding."

I've surfed, snowboarded and skate.

Let me break it down for you, if I may:

On a snowboard, doing a backside 360 is "relatively" easy because as it was pointed out, the board is strapped to your feet.
Still, it's not something you could figure out the first day riding.

On a skateboard, a no grab backside 360 is definitely not easy. It's actually "easier" on flat ground or off a stair set but on ramp (vert or a launch) it's still hard to control the 32" long board that is only staying with you through momentum and some grip tape.

On a surfboard... Holy shiat. That's pretty goddamn insane! Especially how CLEANLY he landed it.

Just for the sake of context, remember that the wave is moving and he somehow aired up and landed back into it. His air was about 12-15 feet above the base of the wave and had control the whole way. Surfboards are big and not light by any means. He maybe didn't get a complete 360 but it was pretty friggin close.

Impressive.

/snowboarded for about 10 years
//still skateboarding after 25+ years
///surfed a couple times because it's HARD
