Blues thread? If I've always wanted to learn harmonica, anyone suggest stuff to listen to that will make me get off my ass and do it?

Yep. Saw Bland in concert with BB and Millie Jackson. Great show, and he'll be missed.

/not looking forward to the day that BB dies. The thrill will really be gone.

Have you ever listened to Little Walter?

Actually, http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/american-blues-harmonica-highlights/ i d649842939 check that out. I picked it up and have been jamming to it. Also, get a good harmonica. I recommend something in C, G, or A.

Why does the NYT have to use parentheses around his nickname?  Is that an actual rule, or could they just as easily used Bobby "Blue" Bland, or Bobby [Blue] Bland.  Or Bobby //Blue// Bland?

And, honestly, I love Blues Traveler, so that's another option.

I've heard him referred to in speech as Bobby Bluebland - like Blue was part of his last name.

/goodnight, blues man

Anything by Carey Bell, Lurie Bell or James Cotton.

The Black Sinatra! I'm burned out on most blues, but I never get tired of Bland. Poverty is a troublesome earworm for me. I suggest Two steps from the Blues and GH I, and GH II.

I've always been a fan of James Cotton. John Popper is another harmonster.

Now I'm gonna have to go home & spin my Bobby "Blue" Bland & BB King LPs.

Sonny Terry, Sonny Boy Williamson or Koerner, Ray and Glover. If you're lucky you might find Blue's Harp, Tony Glover's instructional album.

Whammer Jammer by Magic Dick and the J. Geils Band. You will stop your attempts immediately after listening to it.

On the other hand some LIttle Walter is nice.

As for Bobby - saw him 2-3 times with BB King. It was worth it.
