Spoiler : Carey's appearance is brief, and his character is killed off immediately.

So, the question is " how do you maximize the effect of a cameo appearance when you probably weren't going to be asked to do the talk show circuit and your career is circling the drain ?

Reject the film for its 'uberviolence'

I don't see what's so bad about what he said. He didn't knock the movie, just stated that due to added life experience he no longer would be involved with something so violent.

Can't wait for this movie.

Isn't it clear by now that like most of America's beloved comedians, Jim Carrey is a touch bipolar?

And Canadian?

I'd let Jenny McCarthy suck my soul, if ya know what I mean, and I think you do.

In other news, some people are actually capable of developing their position on complex social issues based on experience. Film at 11.

Gotta agree, it's not like the series's uberviolent nature could come as a shock by now

I'd say the problem most of us have with his position is that he took a paycheck to do a role in an uberviolent film series, does the job and then biatches about it's uberviolence. It's like doing a porn then biatching about it's morality afterwards. Hypocrisy aint attractive.

Also looking forward to this movie.

Why did it take the Sandy Hook attack to change his mind?  Was Columbine not enough?  Or any of the other dozens of randoms mass shootings in the last 10-15 years.

This is the case of a guy who probably has 10 minutes of screen time, and a lagging career, trying to make the story about him and not the movie he just got paid to do and promote.

Yeah everytime I hear an actor who stars in violent movies biatching about violence or guns I tend to laugh a bit at the irony. I'll probably be watching kickass2 sometime in the next decade just because the first was not that great.

It could be the nature of the thing. I'm willing to grant that he may have had some kind of personal epiphany. However, some other comments he's made since then make me think he's a bit unhinged... his time with McCarthy probably didn't help much in that department.

He is a good actor, not just with comic roles but even with drama (I especially enjoyed The Truman Show and The Majestic), but I rather highly disagree with many of his views.

I'll convict him of hyprocrisy is he takes a role that glamorizes/sells violence after making these comments, not before.

/In a similar vein, Paul McCartney ate a lot of meat before he met Linda. Does that make him a hypocrite, or somebody who change his mind based on his experience?
//And John Lennon did a lot of drugs before he met Yoko... ok, never mind. Bad example.

It's a Mark Millar work.  You can expect

1) pointless violence shrouded in a "critique" of violence
2) cursing that would make a 13-year-old chuckle
3) no plot

This. It's basically an 8 year old interpreting Peckinpah.

By the way, was it just a bad dream or didn't get Millar the reins of the Fox Marvel franchise recently?

So what you're saying is he's a perfect fit for this comic book movie.

I'm guessing Jim Carrey probably loved the movie until Jenny saw it.

I don't get what everyone's so mad about. Something happened, and he reflected on it and decided to change one of his opinions.

As for the people who complain that he's a hypocrite for taking a paycheck, do you think Richard Pryor should have given back all his early standup money after he renounced the n-word and said he didn't want to use it again?

Besides, I don't think Jim should worry about the back lash from Kick Ass fanboys. A fair amount of them are creepy enough anyway drooling over the kid who plays Hit Girl.

I do agree with Carrey to an extent.  Like most actors, he was probably on the set only for the scenes he filmed.  When he saw the director's finished cut, maybe he felt that the rest of the movie was too excessive or perhaps glorified violence too much.

2013-06-25 10:35:25 AM
Jim Carrey is full of shiat. He saw the first movie which is why he signed on to do the 2nd. The first one was violent as all hell. I hate people that let the media tell them how to feel. So there were no tragedies before Sandy Hook? Are there not people killed every single day? Why do some tragedies hold precedence over others?
