You can't do that when you're dealing with millions of records.

Not visually, but I would expect a college sophomore minoring in Information Systems to come up with a SQL query that reveals large discrepancies.

Then maybe they should post the source and we'll see what people say. Until I've got something other than "crazed idiot's website said so", this didn't happen.

jake_lex: theknuckler_33: Would I be way off base that the report is being misinterpreted?

Well, the story of the $46 million in refunds going to the same address is true; it's one of the examples of fraud listed in the report.

Where things go derpy is that (wait while I make something up since I am a partisan hack) ...uhhh....uhhhh....The Blaze is trying to make it sound like the IRS is too busy oppressing Tea Party Patriots to stop sending fake refunds to blah people, or that they don't care.

FTFY.

They don't have to.  They are liberals; all they have to do is simply declare that the alleged behavior never happened and that means it never happened.  You see ... if they don't click on the link, in the liberal circle jerkosphere they are granted full plausible deniability.

You know there's only one reason a derp site like The Blaze runs this story.  And so I give you the very Weeners:

I am so tired of supporting the waste and abuse by this giant out of control federal government. Whether its Obama's lavish vacations, Obama care pay offs to unions, bureaucrats, and Obama contributors or this out of control IRS hand out of tax payer money borrowed from China. Perhaps the IRS was too busy punishing conservatives to notice this massive fraud.

The readers definitely heard the dog whistles.

Yeah, the massive fraud by the conservative groups posing as social welfare organizations so they can not pay taxes and funnel dark money from their illegal donors to fund political campaigns.

Actually I don't think they would flip out. How else is the IRS supposed to send refund checks out if they don't have an address.

2013-06-24 02:02:55 AM
I wonder what is at the address. What would be funny is if it was one of those rapid refund corp sites where they process the tax refund loans they gice out to people.

2 different offices doing 2 different things.
The tea party investigations by the IRS were justified and appropriate.  The same as if they were to apply to be a religious organization and were investigated for it.

The only reason why democrats spoke out against it is because they know how stupid the tea partiers are and were avoiding conflict with idiots.

would it make you feel better if HuffPo, the NY Times or the Miami Herald linked to the same treasury.gov report that the blaze linked to?

Zeppelininthesky: Kind of like how Conservatives ignore every shred of reality.

The only shred of reality being discussed in this thread is an official Treasury auditor compiling a fraud report (and making it public obviously), The blaze posting a direct link to it  and a bunch of mouth-breathing liberals saying that because it was posted on a partisan newspaper, that it didn't actually happen.

These are the same people who form their opinions on capitalism and markets based on what they read from the opinion pages of Mother Jones.

Might also have something to do with the 24K people at the same address that nobody seemed to find suspicious.

Just read the form that was signed under penalty of perjury.

I'm wondering who recruited 24K people to use the same address and taught them how to fill out the forms.  That crook is no slouch. And apparently, similar numbers have been using single addresses all over the country.  Is this a tax prep franchise opportunity or something?

The report it real and it's legitimate.

However the only thing the Blaze did was twist the story to think that the IRS was ignoring it to go after Conservatives/Tea Party groups.

If you think that wasn't the intent of publishing this story, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell to you.

Eh, it's probably too late to do that now. The Treasury Department is the one that discovered the situation and I imagine the IRS is probably going to put an end to it.

I have no dog in this fight yet, as I've yet to do the required reading. However, let me address the overall point of this exchange:

Beck is notorious for publishing/barking sh*t that simply isn't true in a ruse to raise his brand value on the backs of idiots. Therefore, when something is reported at his site most people, who long ago gave up on the idea of him providing a serious story or discussion, will naturally default to their bullsh*t detectors even if it's not the case. He could report that the sky is blue this morning and I'd still be suspicious. That he and his employees may actually have a legit source this time around is meaningless after you've spent years deploying 'news' that's clearly designed to inflame emotions rather than to inform.

TL;DR - the boy who cried wolf.

People said the same thing about the national enquirer until they scooped the entirety of the news media and broke the John Edwards mistress story.  This isn't to say that the enquirer is now some bastion of hard-hitting journalism but from time to time a smaller news outlet will break a huge story with the usual detractors saying that they are X,Y,Z and thus not qualified to report the news.

Groups deserving scrutiny that may not deserve non-profit status: Those with "Tea" or "Party in their name.

The Enquirer will nail one once in a while. Mostly it's celebrity stuff, like tracking down the guy who killed Bill Cosby's son. Besides the Edwards scoop, they had the Jesse Jackson love child story, the Bill Clinton/Gennifer Flowers story, the Dick Morris toesucking thing. Also, they nailed the Gary Hart/Donna Rice story...and the Limbaugh/Oxycontin story.

djkutch: Can we get a list of your brethren that have been denied tax exempt status?

Why are you asking this?  Denials/Approval of tax exempt status has nothing to do with the IRS targeting scandal.
