Hey (redacted names) -- the Feds are interviewing my "close friends and associates." Perhaps if the authorities arrive "BuzzFeed GQ," er HQ, may be wise to immediately request legal counsel before any conversations or interviews about our news-gathering practices or related journalism issues.
Also: I'm onto a big story, and need to go off the rada[r] for a bit.
All the best, and hope to see you all soon.
Michael

Oh, yeah, he seems genuinely terrified.

I really hope that Michael's unfortunate death doesn't spin up conspiracy theories. I personally believe such speculation, especially by the news media, is driven by profit and career enhancement by some, paranoia by others.

The Los Angeles Police Department also said it had found no evidence of any foul play in his death

If the LAPD says there was no foul play, that's good enough for me!

I did that in front of the local CHP office for a few months. At some point, they let me know they didn't care for it...

Let's give a hand to Gawker's mocking of all of this:

But it's not helped by winking, vague reports like the L.A. Weekly's that Hastings "had reported extensively on the CIA and was rumored to be continuing work on that beat at the time of his demise" (everyone who works national security is reporting on the CIA right now!)

Who's Michael Hastings?

Is he the one responsible for the auto-play video in TFA? If he was... I'm glad he's dead.

Assuming that they can find it, and that it is intact, yes it should be interesting.  Automotive black boxes are not built to survive a crash like that one.

Buzzfeed is a news site now?  Thats where I go to look at top 10 lists of the funniest cat videos and shiat like that.  They are one step above cracked, maybe on a good day.  fark this was their reporter, they had originals of this 'alarming' email and even they didn't think it was a story worth writing.

Move the hell on people.

.....aaaaand Anna Politovskaya shot herself with two handguns simultaneously.

This story is over four days old, and only now does it appear?

Question: who is more numerous, the tin foil hat types, or the authority-sucking types who are white and of Anglo or Irish descent, yet who write copy for Iraqi newspapers under Arab bylines?  The latter also seem to think that the CIA, NSA, FBI and DoD are benign and can do no wrong, yet think that the IRS is an all-powerful hydra conspiring against all Americans.  It seems that the right-wing authoritophiles like to wear tin foil hats, but since the wealthy generally skate on paying taxes proportionately equal to those of lesser Americans, only under conditions not warranting it.

He may have had good reasons to be paranoid of the Feds, but driving a car 100 mph down a residential street is what killed him not some grand governmental conspiracy.  The Feds would revoke his passport, put him on the no-fly list, give him a crushing audit, harass his friends and family, hold him for questioning too long,  they wouldn't stage a spectacular car wreck.

In a rare move, the FBI issued a statement denying that Hastings was under investigation.

Denial the first sign of guilt.

Is there anyone as "Newsy" over the age of 30? Because every time I see anything from them, it looks like a high school news broadcast to my 42-year-old eyes. It's actually a big turn-off to me. I could accept a mix of people of varying ages and appearance, but this "Newsy" seems to be populated only by 20-something model-pretty people with that weird young-person accent. It's... Off-putting.

Like I said-- It feels like a project done by and for kids. It's weird.

1) Plant computer chip in Mercedes to remotely control it.
2) "Accident"
3) Remove chip and replace it with the original one while in evidence compound.
