akuma976: FormlessOne: Bzzzt! Wrong answer. Besides, why wait in line when I can just preorder my HTC and have it delivered to my friggin' house once it's available?

True for you I guess.  But the fact that you're still dropping Brand names just kinda helps prove my point.

My point is every iproduct that launches has a line of thick-rim-glasses-wearing starbucks-sipping hipsters, lined up around the block ready to drop at least $400 on a device they already own with just a couple new features, so they won't look bad around the other hipsters at the coffee house.  My point applies to the people that will be waiting in line for the Xboxone and PS4 as well

Some people get their gratification from Shoes, others get it from Electronics.  Get over it.

Get over what, exactly? I'm curious, as you appear angry about something - in your Boobies, it was the strawman of predicted apparent hypocrisy. Now, it appears to be the strawman of rampant consumerism driven by the manufactured need for "the new."

I'm going to invent a time machine, go back to the 1800s and show them what happens to all the slaves they imported. Work ethic would hit unprecedented highs.

No clue but part of their job is advising first responders on how to proceed until law enforcement, the fire department, or emergency services arrive. So I would assume he/she had some training, and I have not heard any one question the advice it gave.

Yes. If someone tries to victimise you, and you kill them, you're a hero.

Only if the dispatcher is a uniformed officer. Otherwise they are just a civilian, and Sanford PD already acknowledged that.

Lee said the 911 directions asking Zimmerman not to confront the teenager are not mandatory instructions.

"That is a call taker making a recommendation to him. He's not under a legal obligation to do that, so that is not something we can charge him with," he said.

You assume anyone in line wasn't a minority? You've got the crime, the retaliation, the recognition for a "homie?" Only an idiot would assume that entire crowd wasn't packing heat.

Pulling a gun on someone is like swimming in the ocean.  Once you get into the ocean you're part of the food chain, you got in you may get shark bit.  Pull a gun on someone, you might get farking shot.

Although not a law enforcement officer typically, listening to a dispatcher is a good idea in an emergency situation if you value your continued existence, or the one of someone you love and/or want to help.

foo monkey: A human life is worth less than a pair of shoes.

Your statement is not universally accurate. A typical human life is not worth less than a pair of shoes. The life of a human who commits robbery is worth less than a pair of shoes.

foo monkey: A human life is worth less than a pair of shoes.

Well, the proper way to frame your question is that a human who feels it's a reasonable and rational course of action to pull a gun on someone over the money to buy shoes is worth less than those shoes.

There are seven billion humans. One of them decided it would be an awesome idea to rob a whole line of other humans who were crazy enough to be waiting in line for a pair of shoes.

So yes, he was worth less than a good pair of shoes.

This is not about the pair of shoes in the slightest. It is about a group of people who were subjected to armed robbery and defended themselves.

To provide some fair consideration: some individuals believe that armed robbers are entitled to a guarantee of a safe workplace.

A lot of racist undercurrents, here. Yes, the people were black. Yes, the shoes are (by my standards at least) ugly and overpriced. But these were also American citizens (most likely) lining up to legally buy a product from an American business in an orderly fashion. Some guy who was most assuredly armed or was big enough to intimidate people to give over their money through brute force decided to rob people of their money.

Look... you don't want to get beaten or shot... don't threaten people with bodily harm unless they give you their belongings. You rob or loot, you deserve to get shot. I have absolutely no problem with this and will not accept any kind of sob story about it. I don't care if your kid has cancer and this is the only way in your dim mind to raise the money.

You can buy them on the website.

I saw something about buying shoes on ESPN this weekend and Nike refused to comment on the sneaker related shootings.  ESPN claimed that Nike had opened up a website to avoid this.

If your standing in line seven hours to buy shoes you should be shot yourself. I bet everyone in line had an EBT card and was on welfare.

I could've read the police report myself too. The reporter's mission was to convey relevant information about the incident and, instead, she pointed to a picture ...on her laptop.

/When witnesses described the shoes as "jeans  you wear on your feet" and "highly marketable", you can at least get a look at the real thing.

In Georgia there is a code phrase used by crime victims "I was in fear for my life so I shot him." works every time when there are witnesses to confirm the crime.

It's legal with "forcible felonies".

From da law: the term 'forcible felony' means any felony which involves the use or threat of physical force or violence against any person and further includes, without limitation, murder; felony murder; burglary; robbery; armed robbery; kidnapping; hijacking of an aircraft or motor vehicle; aggravated stalking; rape; aggravated child molestation; aggravated sexual battery; arson in the first degree; the manufacturing, transporting, distribution, or possession of explosives with intent to kill, injure, or intimidate individuals or destroy a public building; terroristic threats; or acts of treason or insurrection.

Someone performing any of those -- I have no problem if they are removed from the gene pool..

90supraT: Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: His hero status is offset by the fact that he's a grown man waiting in like for sneakers.

Meh, some people collect hubcaps, some collect sneakers. It is a harmless hobby, harmless except for the guy that was shot of course.

Nightline covered this recently.  They followed a white suburban kid who got up at 6 AM (and whined about how early it was) and got in his dad's Audi SUV and went to some Sneakerhead convention with 5 pairs of shoes in beat up boxes.  It was rather disturbing actually.

They're just farking shoes, FFS.  I'm actually male and not gay, so I have one pair of shoes and they're not fancy.  They're comfortable and I'm pretty sure no one is going to kill me for them.

Which is why they drew the "how many are on Medicaid" comment.  Nobody asked how many people who were waiting in line to spend $700 on a PS3 were on Medicaid.  Or how about the people who bought the original iPhone for $600?  I didn't see too many people talking about how they were all welfare cases.

Oh, and:

Mid_mo_mad_man: whites acting black

Please, do tell, what is "acting black"?

Probably. I didn't see most of the preppy white kids i know wearing sneakers like this. A few, maybe, but mostly not. It's a cultural thing. And heaven forbid that we acknowledge that certain folks are predisposed to certain types of behavior. No different than assuming all southern white people are racist and all comic book nerds are virgins.
