FTFA:  "He was probably after that shoe money," Leslie Garcia said of the man who was shot.

Those are some fine deduction skills on display there Leslie.

People still get killed for $180 sneakers? Is it 1990 already?

shoes: serious business bidness

His hero status is offset by the fact that he's a grown man waiting in like for sneakers.

If you've ever waited in line for a pair of sneakers, you're an idiot.

Shoot robbers on your own time.

He didn't shoot the robber, he popped a cap in his ass.

if i see someone robbing someone else i can shoot them and it's self defense? good to know.

Is his name going to be added to the Victims of Gun Violence list?

Meh, some people collect hubcaps, some collect sneakers. It is a harmless hobby, harmless except for the guy that was shot of course.

2013-06-22 10:09:46 PM
So this begs the question: was the shooter out of line?

2013-06-22 10:10:12 PM
More information about shoes than about the shooting. Journalism at its full ebb.

Came here to say something like this. I have a small collection of Casio G-Shock watches, so I can't cast stones at those people.

/ AFAIK, nobody's been killed over a G-Shock ( maybe in Japan....)

seriously, i consider that heroic, if a bit rash. self-defense though?

Robber?

Did he shoot LeBron or Nike? ...because $180 for sneakers is robbery.

Yes, but they saved his place.

Yeah, I collect autographed hot sauces, so I guess I'm not really one to talk.

damn yanks: WhoopAssWayne: I'm guessing all the liberal crackpots in the Zimmerman thread will keep their mouth shut in this one - after all, the shooter was black. Best crawl under that futon and p*ss down your pant leg rather than show an ounce of integrity and consistency.

Well just say there is a difference in a grown man getting shot during an attempted robbery, and a kid getting shot running away from a fight he didn't start to begin with.

How do you get shot at contact range running away when you're sitting on someone's chest beating their head against the ground? The "kid" was a 17 year old football player that weighed 180 pounds, Old enough to join the Army and play with automatic weapons and hand grenades.

So the robber wasnt armed, was not threatening the guy that shot and killed him, this was not self defense, not stand your ground, simple vigilantism and this guy is a hero?

I think it's been assumed the dude wasn't just going to rob one person in line and split.

Defense from a forcible felony; A person is justified in using threats or force to the degree they reasonably believe it is necessary to stop another person's imminent use of unlawful force. A person is justified in using deadly force which may harm or kill only if he or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent death or great bodily injury to himself or herself or a third person or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony (unless it is regarding defense of habitation, which has its own requirements below). You are not justified if you were the aggressor or you are/were/on-the-way-to committing a felony. (The state has pre-empted local cities and counties from further restricting this defense.)(http://www.georgiapacking.org/GaCode/?title=16&chapter=3&sec tion=21 (16-3-21) )

What more information do you need?!
Dumbass sees a line of men waiting to buy shoes, a line of men in the guntopia of Georgia no less, and decides to rob them.
Pretty obvious that isn't the kind of crime you walk away from.

Now since I'm not a footwear person, I gots ta know what kind of shoe would make dozens of people wake up before the rooster to wait in line. A picture would help.

I was thinking the same thing. What is the pettiest crime that you are allowed to kill somebody for committing against you in Georgia?

Did the guy called "Save-sies" before he stepped out of line?  Because if not, under the "Cutter, Cutter, Peanut Butter" Doctrine, he loses his space.

2013-06-22 10:37:35 PM
Those people stood in line for 7 hours and some didn't get shoes

Probably not many.. this was in Little Five Points, which is the Atlanta equivalent of Haight-Ashbury (though it is just a couple miles up Moreland from one of the worse off parts of town).

BTW, is there some sort of a price range for Stand Your Ground laws?  if this guy had robbed somebody of a $20 pair of KMart shoes would this have been justified?  What about somebody who used a 50 percent of coupon?

On the bright side, those people who didn't get them saved $180 per pair.
