So it is DOA. Grumbles

Give it a couple weeks and ask again. His price may drop a bit when the final numbers for "After Earth" come in.

I think it would be nice to see a science fiction movie without Smith or Cruise in it

While I normally agree, Will Smith was an integral part of the original Independence Day. As was Jeff Goldblum.

Of course not, Subby.  Independence Day took place on "Erf".

2013-06-22 08:45:31 PM
As long as they don't get his son to be in it, I'll go see it.

Because After Earth, Hancock and I Am Legend were such mega hits.

Who's going to deliver the "Awwww hell no!" line then?

Jeff Goldblum of course.

The last I heard neither he nor Bill Pullman are in Independence Day 2.

The funny thing is that if you go back and watch that scene he clearly says Earth.

Considering that "After Earth" flopped to the tune of $100 million+, I think that Will's price tag is about to friggin' drop like a stone.

MaudlinMutantMollusk: I think it would be nice to see a science fiction movie without Smith or Cruise in it

If it has John Travolta, Will Smith, or Tom Cruise in it, it's less a "science fiction" movie and more a "Scientologist fiction" movie. Not that it matters - it sucks at that point.

Maybe that will cause them to rethink the whole idea. I enjoyed the first one as was explored fully in the last thread on the subject but a sequel is a terrible idea. When understood properly the first film is good hard sci-fi with some cheesy human elements, any sequel automatically forfeits the right to claim good sci-fi.

I think the amount of butthurt people have over him helping his kids out in the business are hilarious. As if none of you would help your kid out the same way if you were in the same position and your kid expressed an interest in the entertainment business. Where's the outrage over the current and recent past movie/television stars that were helped in a similar way or the outrage over the ones who got their foot in the door just because of their parents? Jamie Lee Curtis, Gwyneth Paltrow, Drew Barrymore, Eva Amurri, Chris Pine, Jennifer Aniston, Liv Tyler, Rashida Jones and more all have famous or well known parents in showbiz, where is the outrage over nepotism with them? Do you folks think those folks made it in Hollywood without a helping hand from their parents? And I'm sure there's shiatloads more than that. Be consistent or STFU.

/kid wasn't that bad in the Karate Kid remake.

Is he in jail or on the lam? Well either way they'll give him a pass long enough to film ID42.

Heh! Not unless he plays a ghost, and they film his scenes in Canada. He and his wife will be arrested on felony burglary charges if they re-enter the United States.

You know what always bugged me about ID?  That Randy Quaid's character was mocked and laughed at because he claimed to be abducted.

And then when they were being attacked he said he wanted some payback for that time he was abducted.

And they all laughed at him and rolled their eyes.

They're under attack from ALIENS!!  I think, maybe, they owe him an apology!!!

Just because there were actually aliens doesn't mean his story about being abducted wasn't drunken ramblings. They don't seem like the abducting type of alien.

Uh, okay. Sure, why not.

I just hope Judd Hirsch reprises his role as the concerned and not at all ridiculously stereotypical Jewish father.

Yeah but were they given headliner roles in movies without any acting experience, I remember Jamie Lee Curtis in a Columbo episode playing a waitress, two maybe three words of dialogue.

There's "helping" your kids and there's jamming them down our throats at every opportunity. There's letting your kids benefit from your contacts and there's dressing your 7 year old daughter like a whore so she can rap about farking and expect everyone to think it's adorable. And yes, I'm sick of nepotism everywhere, including Hollywood.

As we learned decades ago in another action-packed SF sequel movie that had aliens invade our planet, the correct pronunciation of the name of the planet is ߟ

― "Houston."

Alien clone.

Well, after he lost his ass on 'After Earth', one would think he'd be desperate to make any kind of money making a movie that people actually want to see him make.

I guess there wasn't enough Scientology mythos in this ID sequel.

Nah, they can blame that one on M. Night and say that his bad reputation kept audiences away.

So Smith will do a Bad Boys 3 and an MIB 3 that nobody farking asked for, but he wants too much $ to re-up for a sequel to the most successful film he's ever starred in. He hasn't made a film that was worth a damn in 6 years, and he just had the biggest bomb of his career. A return to the Independence Day franchise seemed like a total no-brainer to breathe some life back into his career.
