I'm in complete support of a Nationwide thread when Wallmendinger is on the pole. Is Jacques Villemove in the race as well?

It's Polemindinger today.

And I thought Jacques was at Sonoma for the cup race.

He might be. Then again there's still time to get to Road America before the race.

Vickers is racing both of them, but not Jacques. Wallmendinger is in the car Jacques would usually be in (the 22.) Jacques is essentially just trolling Danica at this point.

It's always fun to watch them negotiate turn 5 at RA for the first few times in a race. It's just so damn foreign to NASCAR drivers.

Or the reverse - you get the ringers who know the track, but not these heavy primitive cars, and start causing chaos.

I really hope the cleanup crews are up to speed this year. Yellows seem to take forever here.

They need to figure out that on a course like this they can use "local yellow" instead of "full course/safety car".

If a stop on L1 is a legit strategy, it probably means the race distance isn't right.

It's only legit if there are a bunch of cautions. So it's kind of a NASCAR-only thing

Whether it's LMP1, or NASCAR, your Toyota is going to need a reboot.

But at the same time, a bunch of cautions should mean guys can make it on just 2 stops.

Dinger may have lost the lead, but still doing much better than at Belle Isle.

Yeah. That's the standard strategy. Going 3 stop means you hope that first caution falls before the 2 stoppers had their chance to pit, so you leap frog them and now you don't have to save as much gas at the end when they have to be. Then you hope you can hold on to that lead and get back on sequence because of the hoped for frequent cautions. Lap 1 is a bit... hasty, in my opinion, but 2 or 3 has worked.

Well, he managed that the moment he completed a lap. Heh.

What if I told you they do?

Oh yeah, I forgot. They weren't allowed to refuel after group qualifying, so the thirstier higher HP setups *needed* that 3rd stop just to get even with the 2 stoppers.
