The Brazil vs Italy match has been a niggly affair with Italy keeping every one behind the ball.

2013-06-22 04:04:21 PM
Dante scores at the half to keep Brazil firmly in control of Group A, meaning Italy are on course to replay the Euro 2012 final against Spain.
Meanwhile, a BS offside call robs Japan of a 1-0 advantage for pride against Mexico. That one is 0-0.
Hopefully, we'll see some more goals in these games before tomorrow.

What a flick from Balo to set up Giaccherini.

2013-06-22 04:16:46 PM
Lovely free kick from Neymar.

So outside of a miracle by Nigeria, or a complete capitulation by Uruguay, it looks to be Spain-Italy and Brazil-Uruguay in the semis. Some pretty good rematches there.

Really enjoying seeing the Italians getting dominated in this game. I like seeing the Italians go down so easy and then complain on the rare times the Brazilian players do it.

Is anyone actually watching the Japan game?

Oh wow, is that a goal or not??

The ref had blown his whistle and pointed to the penalty spot before the ball was over the line.

2013-06-22 04:34:24 PM
Well that was an odd sequence. Never seen a ref give a penalty, watch the ball go in, and then change their mind and award the goal. Seems unfair a bit.

Should of been a penalty. Or the ref should of waited a secound more to see if the Italy got an advantage.

/This game is only slightly less brutal than SA vs Samoa this afternoon
//And one guy got sent off for a late clothesline on a saffer

2013-06-22 04:37:24 PM
that ref needs to be fired.

no horse in the race, but what a disgrace

Japan's been bossing the game for most of the action, but the two goals they let in were just bad marking and luck. It's been the story of Japan's cup run: bad luck.

2013-06-22 04:49:41 PM
And that's game.

2013-06-22 04:50:05 PM
Another Brazil goal. Woooo!

How the hell did Tahiti get into this tournament?

farking neckbearded hipsters ruin everything.

They beat New Zealand and then another island nation (starts with a C, I forget) to win the Oceania tournament.

New Zealand lost to New Caldonia in the Oceania Cup. Tahiti then beat them in the final.

Oh right, Tahiti beat the Samoan Islands in the semi-finals.

Well, likelihood notwithstanding, here's the situation.

*Whoever gets the better result of Nigeria and Uruguay will advance.
*If they're level on points, it comes down to goal differential. Nigeria leads that by four goals. If that ends up even, Nigeria leads by four in goals scored. If THAT ends up even, Uruguay beat Nigeria 2-1 directly, so they would then advance.

SO:
*If they both lose (hahahahaha), Spain would have to beat Nigeria by four, almost certainly five, more goals than Tahiti beat Uruguay (work with me here). So Spain winning 6-0 and Tahiti winning 1-0 would work.
*If they both tie, Nigeria advances.
*If they both win, Uruguay needs to score four more goals than Nigeria does.

There's also a way for Spain to get eliminated. For that to happen, Nigeria must beat them by 5 and Uruguay must beat Tahiti by 10.

Unless Uruguay fail completely, and Spain take a day off, it's probably going to be Spain and Uruguay moving on. I can't see Suarez-Cavani-Forlan not having a field day with that high back line of Tahiti/

30 minutes out. Unfreakable, can we get a thread bump?

2013-06-23 02:38:59 PM
Going to miss the games as I am going to the pool, but I think they are pretty much decided already.

2013-06-23 02:47:18 PM
No Suarez, no Cavani, and no Forlan starting, but Coates on a yellow is. Not sure what Uruguay is thinking here. I'm sure Gaston Ramirez is good enough to get it done, but still, hell of a gamble.

2013-06-23 03:01:50 PM
Don't forget if Tahiti beat Uruguay and Spain beat Nigeria and the combined gaol differeance is over 15 then Tahiti go through to the semis

/No its not going to happen
//Would be funny if it did

2013-06-23 03:02:03 PM
Well that was quick. Hope nobody was still in the beer line.

2013-06-23 03:02:35 PM
And Uruguay score 50 seconds in. Rout incoming again?

2013-06-23 03:03:43 PM
And Spain score 3 minutes in. Rout incoming?

2013-06-23 03:04:05 PM
And Jordi Alba scores. Can barely sit down on these two games here.

2013-06-23 03:24:22 PM
And Uruguay score 23 minutes in. Rout incoming?

2013-06-23 03:25:03 PM
What a pretty goal from Abel Hernandez for Uruguay's second.

2013-06-23 03:27:12 PM
If Soldado had chipped that, it would have been 2 for Spain.

2013-06-23 03:28:28 PM
And Uruguay score 26 minutes in. Rout incoming?

2013-06-23 03:35:01 PM
Uruguay not quite scoring for fun against Tahiti.

STOP THE PRESSES!
TAHITI HAD A SHOT ON GOAL!

2013-06-23 03:39:48 PM
POST!
How did Cesc not score there?

2013-06-23 03:45:56 PM
And Uruguay score 45 minutes in. Rout incoming?

2013-06-23 03:46:24 PM
If Nigeria pulls off a miracle and beats Spain, the advancing teams will be determined by who ran up the score the most against Tahiti.

I think I prefer the head-to-head tiebreakers.

2013-06-23 03:50:41 PM
Why are Forlan and Suarez riding pine?

I mean Hernandez is scorching Tahiti, I imagine it could be evene easier for them...

2013-06-23 03:51:06 PM
Gus Poyet is one of the BBC pundits currently and the story has broken that Brighton have sacked Poyet as manager. The first he knew of hit was when a BBC research handed him the statement from the clubs website.

That is poorly done by Brighton and Hove Albion.

2013-06-23 03:54:36 PM
If Spain holds on to win and Tahiti can score 23 goals in the 2nd half, Tahiti will make it through

2013-06-23 04:07:55 PM
AND TAHITI HAS WON THE WORLD CUP! Or just saved a penalty. Either way.

Leader O'Cola: Why are Forlan and Suarez riding pine?

Forlan and Suarez are battling for all-time Uruguay goal scorer. Better to play neither f them so as to not show any favoritism.

2013-06-23 04:40:27 PM
Now Suarez and Forlan are tied again for most all time. Pretty goal from Suarez, just abusing the defender.

2013-06-23 04:47:52 PM
Suarez with his 2nd

Suarez and Forlan could have put up a dozen together against this squad

2013-06-23 04:48:51 PM
Alba makes it 3-0 Spain, Suarez makes it 8-0 Uruguay. Turn out the lights folks.

ADubs86: 30 minutes out. Unfreakable, can we get a thread bump?

Was out doing stuff with the family, sorry I missed this.

As a heads-up for you (or anybody still reading this late in the thread): if you hit me up but don't hear from me and the game is about to start, use the "Notify admins about this link" feature at the bottom of the thread. Just click the link to send an email to the admin list, and say something like,  "Hey this game is about to start, could we please get a thread bump?" or something like that.

There were several other admins around today who would have been happy to help you out, but since you only sent it to me and I didn't see my email, this thread was missed by a lot of people that might have seen it at the top of the Sports tab. Seems a shame, lots of scoring is entertaining for the neutrals.

Thanks man, will keep that in mind for the semi-final matches and future threads.
