I watched those for the first time this morning. I don't understand how anybody who's ever even worked a half day in the PR business would have possibly allowed those to air. The first one was awful, but the second was even worse. This was BP-level PR incompetence.

They fired her because it looked bad on their network to have an old racist lady showing you how to clog your arteries.

That "apology" video had so many cuts in such a short time. I guess she couldn't hold her "I'm really sorry" face and kept cracking up.

I bet the unedited footage is pure comedy gold. I pray to FSM that it gets leaked soon.

She'll get her own show on FoxNews on the weekends

2013-06-22 01:15:18 PM
She should have just admitted to calling people "Successful and Attractive African Americans." What's wrong with calling African Americans attractive or successful?

2013-06-22 01:17:03 PM
Hopefully she'll be replaced with someone younger. And hot.

Between this and the diabetes hypocrisy, I bet they don't consider it much of a loss.

But ... but ... she's such a good, hardworking woman!  She's only human!!

I'll save my tears and feminist anger for better things, thanks.

The woman's obviously ashamed, embarrassed and flustered. Is this like the Howard Dean thing, where we're all supposed to jump on board and agree that it's inappropriate or something because, you know, everyone's saying so?

Mel Gibson apology

They should have dropped her ass the instant she revealed that she'd been hiding her diabetes while pushing high sugar crap on her viewers.  She's a cook who can't eat what she cooks.

I'm okay with him getting to keep it. He's only famous because of his Mom, but still; why get rid of him? What did he do aside from crawl out of her vagina decades ago?

Dean had one moment of crazy. Deen had built an image that makes you wonder why it took something like this to get her fired.

2013-06-22 01:28:56 PM
I guess the epic punishment for using the "n" word - for celebrities - includes public shaming

Too bad some of the private people i've run across who use that word (and, memorably offered
to ...well....something-something potus) merely get validation from their friends - and not in the
south.

I feel bad for Mrs. Dean - because someone who built a successful brand and taped shows for
public viewing, lived through the civil rights movement and raised children didn't get the "this
is now a stupid word only stupid people use" memo  -  It's worse so many others didn't either

2013-06-22 01:29:03 PM
Deen:  Ya'll, just let me say I'm sorry.
PR team:  Listen, you are an uneducated woman from the south.  We're white guys that have degrees from some of the finest universities in the northeast.  I think you should listen to us.  If there's one thing we know, it's how to handle racism.

/I have no idea who her PR team is
//just stereotyping like everyone else

2013-06-22 01:29:18 PM
She must have been on the bubble there anyway as far as getting her show renewed. Because it all happened too fast.

The Food Network made themselves a mess though, which I laugh at.

Yeah, she said nothing wrong, right? I mean you tell those kinds of jokes all the time. Not too loudly, of course.

2013-06-22 01:29:21 PM
This morning's cable guide showed that Paula should have been on.

but GIADA instead.

Paula went away faster than an out of favor commissar in Stalin's Russia. Just waiting for the awkwardly 'shopped pictures with her erased from them to show up on the network's website.

2013-06-22 01:29:35 PM
Who cares about these manufactured celebrities?

2013-06-22 01:30:20 PM
Good. fark Paula Deen. That woman's always come across to me as being faker than a pair of tits on an Orange County housewife.

Um, I was talking about the apology, not the incident(s) being apologized for. Are you that dense, or that hard up for something to argue about?

Sweet, sweet can.

Let's hope we can call the pervert that had the original Rowdy Roddy Peeper.

Meh. You'll all get over it. I haven't really given two shiats about this. She's dumber than a bag of doorknobs for saying what she said years ago.

Farking hypocrites. The whole lot of people hating have ALL said shiat that would be considered culturally insensitive. Stop playing like you're FSM.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE WHITE KNIGHT!  FREEDOM OF SPEECH FOREVER!!

Said it so I didn't have to.  Thanks, guys.  Can't wait to see how worse it gets for Fatty McButtercakes.

This is out of proportion. She's a 66 year old southerner, of course she's used racist epithets. She also now know that it was wrong. We all have mistakes in our past, to saddle someone with their comments forever is simply being a jerk. I'm no Paula Deen fan, but c'mon. Show some class.

Incontinent_dog_and_monkey_rodeo: They should have dropped her ass the instant she revealed that she'd been hiding her diabetes while pushing high sugar crap on her viewers.  She's a cook who can't eat what she cooks.

While I think her duplicity was unconscionable, I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say someone should never demonstrate cooking something they can't eat.  I mean, if I had a cooking show, I wouldn't be able to use chili peppers, bell peppers, and several other things - because if I eat them, I react in varying degrees, from vomiting to being taken to the hospital to have my airway stabilized because it's swelling shut.

That said, I - like many native Savannians - am horrified that this woman is considered a representative sample of our fair city.  She's not even from Savannah, she's from Albany.  The whole Hiers family are nothing but plain common trash, and everyone in middle and south Georgia knows it.

Good riddance.  Even though I haven't watched Food Network since they gave Guy Ferry half their goddamn airtime.

Deen will be back after Oprah interviews her on OWN and she completes her reeducation camp courses/apology tour.

Why?  She's not literally forcing food into people's faces.  I think anyone who can cook at this point can understand what kind of food is bad for you.  That kind of food also happens to taste the best.

"You're right. I did smoke cigarettes for a lot of years on my show. But I wasn't selling farking cigarettes ... And when I found a spot on my farking lung, I didn't wait three years so I could get a deal selling the patch."

This is why Anthony Bourdain is awesome and Paula Deen is a biatch.

I know the larger story is about her being abusive to an employee, which is wrong and illegal -- fine.  Nail her for that.

But the original TMZ video on this makes me do a doubletake.  According to the original TMZ story, the uproar is because she admitted to using the "n-word" in private, in her home, to her husband, after an armed robbery.

So, now Americans don't even have freedom of speech and expression in their own homes?  You and I may not like what she said, but what happened to the First Amendment that people used to actually give a damn about?

Talk about Thought Police.

2013-06-22 01:38:53 PM
Yeah, the videos were awful. The easiest way to tell she doesn't think she did something wrong?

"... based on race, religion, or sexual preference."

Being gay hasn't been considered a preference now for sometime, Butter-butt. You really need to get out of Georgia more.

/was kind of cool to watch my straight fiancé cringe at that phrase for me

2013-06-22 01:40:16 PM
They fired her for being honest, let's face it, she should have lied.

2013-06-22 01:41:02 PM
At least she got a quick resolution and won't have to spend weeks sweating butter.

2013-06-22 01:42:41 PM
They didn't fire her for hiding the fact that her recipes are literally life-threatening and that she herself is suffering from diabetes as a result of her diet, but be ause she admitted to saying an un-pc word 30 years ago?

Weird society we have here.

reaperducer: but what happened to the First Amendment

Tell me -- which government agency is violating her First Amendment right? Thanks to right-wing and libertarian lunatics, corporations can do whatever they want to the peons who work for them for whatever reason.

You don't know how the Constitution works. The sad thing is that I bet you consider yourself a libertarian, too.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences.

/then I guess it's not really freedom, is it?

2013-06-22 01:44:41 PM
Well, she could just try to do what Dog the Bounty Hunter did and say she'd like to be buried next to old slaves when she dies.

2013-06-22 01:45:38 PM
All she admitted was that she was tired of dealing with the negro-y shenanigans.
