What I learned from that is there are nasty weirdos who eat chips with mayonnaise.

It's a British tabloid. They mean "french fries" with mayonnaise.

I sometimes think a British to English translation tool would be extremely useful.

FTA: Conspiracy theorists claimed the US military had captured a crashed alien aircraft, but "The Man" maintained it had merely recovered debris from a top secret surveillance balloon. Ask Ant & Dec - they made a film about it: 2006 flop Alien Autopsy.

Actually the US military announced they recovered a crashed alien aircraft. Then a few hours later pretended they never said that.

And there's dozens of credible military people who were involved that have come forward with information, which would be better sources than some fake alien autopsy video.

"Berliner, or "midi", is a newspaper format with pages normally measuring about 315 mm × 470 mm (12.4 in × 18.5 in). The Berliner format is slightly taller and marginally wider than the tabloid/compact format; and is both narrower and shorter than the broadsheet format"

Guardian is neither tabloid nor "tabloid"

I understood the joke.  If we were going to do that joke, I figured I'd add on with an ich bin ein berliner joke.

/Insert Grauniad joke here that I couldn't fit in elsewhere.
