Unfortunately, the only thing to escape that massive library that holds footage from almost every major North American organization in the 20th century will be the same 10 years of WWF footage rehashed over and over, because VINCE WON, GODDAMNIT, AND YOU WILL BOW DOWN AND SUCK ON HIS ICOPRO FILLED COCK.

Well. To be fair they did release all that WCW and ECW footage to show why they were failures and could never really compete with Vince.

They don't take too much out of the Benoit vault. People really get choked up when they go in there.

Don't forget all the copyright claims on old commercial videos or any videos that have commercials that his organization has been flexing over on YouTube because those ads were once shown on WWE wrestling shows from 20-30 years ago

That's why I said "North America", since Vince has the Stampede footage.

At least there's still supposed to be a Mid-South/UWF box set coming later this year. But Stampede never got a set.

Wait a second, I thought Stu had retained all the old Stampede footage when Vince bought him out.  I remember Bret talking about how after WCW got bought out he was worried because that meant the only video he had of his career was the old Stampede tapes.

WWE Classics on Demand has been showing old Stampede episodes for the better part of two years. So I would assume they either own the tapes, or lease them out.

Some Stampede footage also made it to that recent Bret Hart Dungeon Collection DVD, so odds are Vince owns the footage now.

Since Vince and Bret made nice, Bret and family probably sold the footage, since it's worthless to them otherwise. And if he was smart, Bret would have at least gotten some remastered tapes from WWE out of the deal.

Ah.  I'm a dirty basic cable subscriber so I was not aware WWE had been showing the old footage.  You'd figure that the whole "Bret Hart Night" would have been the perfect time to announce a box set.  Then again, I'm not the genius that Vinny is.

Driving through north Georgia last month, I thought I had the Atlanta Braves game on the radio, because Brian McCann was up to bat...thought I was having an acid flashback because it sounded like Tony Schiavone was doing play-by-play. Then I realized I had the Gwinnett AAA Braves on (McCann was rehabbing).

Yep, that's one of Tony's jobs these days. He also can be heard on the Georgia Bulldogs football broadcasts, and is the sports anchor on WSB's morning news.

I know we're supposed to hate Vince and everything they do because reasons, but they've done a pretty nice job with their Home Video releases. They virtually never re-release the same match over and over again and if they do there's usually an alternate commentary. The Bret-Shawn Rivalries disc and the CM Punk Bio were both excellent. They're coming out with a War Games collection featuring every War Games plus a few more similar matches. There's a Mid-South collection coming soon as well. The Foley bio was pretty damn good. There's another ECW Unreleased collection coming up. Give 'em shiat when they deserve it, but their DVDs are pretty solid. At least, they could be way worse.

It was well known at the time that when WWE destroyed WCW by far the most valuable part of their deal taking it over was assuming control of its video library. That library is worth a great deal of money. It's probably the single most valuable asset the company has.

I don't disagree... to a point.

There could be more done with using the library than just WWE Classics. Sure, the network is dead, but streaming, netflix, amazon, season passes for old shows...

Also, the people making the DVDs have to be borderline retarded. The Shawn/Bret DVD, for example... the entire final DVD was Hall of Fame inductions and the Iron Man match. That would have been okay if they hadn't forgot to include one tiny thing...

THE FARKING MONTREAL SCREWJOB MATCH!

Sure, it was on the bluray... big farking deal. The most important piece of the story should be available no matter which set you purchase.

Sure, they can always do more, but I think they're putting out a new release every three or four weeks or so. Not a bad clip.

...and yeah, the screwjob probably should've been on the DVD. But then again, it's not the match that people talked about.

..and yeah, it's be nice to have an easy and affordable way to watch old Raws and Nitros. Perhaps in time.

I am actually shocked the WWE network never got picked up (although IIRC they are still working on it). I mean, there is a lot dumber channels than that.

WWE Roundtable Discussions were absolutely awesome.
