I bite my nails when nervous. I always have. I took up smoking recentlyish as another mechanism of stress relief.

While I think the overall reaction, after initial incredulity and grief, was an overreaction that caused countless deaths and continues to...

Stress relief comes in many ways for all of us. Even the reactionary and stupid.

At least we now have a new party to blame in the conspiracy theory game. If anyone can find a link between Dick Cheney and Marlboro they can weave a beautiful tapestry of lies, that the truthers will eat up.

Tell you what. I'd rather every single person in America take up smoking and die of cancer than have the NSA spy on citizens.

At least smoking is a symbol of freedom. What the NSA is doing is what we thought we found so abhorrent about the USSR.

Give me cars, cigarettes, guns, and alcohol. Give me a road that goes on for a thousand miles, and let me go go go.

This used to be America. It still can be, but it's gonna take a revolution to get it back.

That's more like a "George Bush, Jr." induced increase in smoking. The stress levels line up perfectly with his reign of unholy terror, and I'll bet they magically went back down a bit in 2009.

Just think of all the people chain smoking while watching Hannity and friends on FOX.

TV: "Tonight...How long until Obama dissolves Congress and the courts and declares martial law? The answer may shock you..."

Viewer: "God damn *puff* communist *puff puff* Muslim! *puff* He's going *puff* to ruin the *puff* country!"

TV: "Up next! Yup he's at it again folks! Obama caught reading from a teleprompter AGAIN! we can't maker this up folks!"

Viewer" *puff* heh! *puff* Obama is *puff* such an empty suit *puff*"

People have died from smoke inhalation when trapped in a burning building.  But correct, not one has actually died from smoking cigarettes.  They die from complications as a result of smoking.

/I've almost quit smoking
//Mostly vaping now

If a man dies from a heart attack, blood clot, or other cardiopulmonary sort of event while smoking due to nicotine's vasoconstrictive properties, would you not count that as death by smoking? If a motorcyclist is thrown from his bike at 90 miles an hour and splatters his head on the pavement, it's still considered death by motorcycle.

I once bought a cigarette lighter in the shape of the twin towers. When you opened it, they started blinking.

This was after 9/11.

Don't worry, eventually a Republican will be President again, and you can go back to supporting the NSA's tactics.

terrorists won long time ago

the minute you couldn't take your own stuff on a plane
the minute you gave up  your privacy and freedoms
the minute you invaded Iraq
the minute you let GWB take you up the ass

NOTE:  THE ONLY THING KEEPING PLANES FROM FLYING INTO BUILDINGS ARE THE PASSENGERS.

NOBODY WOULD EVER LET A HIJACKER HAVE THEIR WAY AFTER 9/11.
THE PROBLEM CREATED ITS OWN SOLUTION.

everything else is window dressing and bullshiat.
America died that day, but only because YOU LET IT DIE.

Out here we smoke because of hookers, booze, golf, poker and sports bars.

Dying from smoking != dying as a result of smoking.

As for your motorcycle example, I would call that death by head hitting pavement.

"I was really surprised to find that former smokers across the nation resumed their old habit," Pesko said.

Yeah, because usually when smokers quit smoking, they never touch another cig.
