Damn,  I'm on the wrong coast.  Again.

2013-06-21 07:04:05 PM
That would be cool. Wish I had a reason to be in San Diego on a Wednesday.

Why are you subtracting the geekiness from HopCon?

2013-06-21 07:57:44 PM
You know what? I'd like to attend just so as I can get drunk and obnoxious and have Wil punch me in the face. Then I'd get a t-shirt made that said "Wil Wheaton punched me in the face in San Diego".

Drinking an Arrogant Bastard right now, so I'm getting a kick...  Actually, no, I'm jealous as hell.

Last Man on Earth: Drinking an Arrogant Bastard right now, so I'm getting a kick...  Actually, no, I'm jealous as hell.

Arrogant Bastard is awesome.  I had one with a ... uh... cubano sandwich?  I forget.  The beer was good, though.  This was back in early December 2012 when I was down in Portland, ME for security training.

2013-06-21 09:38:09 PM
So, yeah... I remember the beer, and when I had it, but not the sammich.

Guess what my priorities are.

You're living the dream Drew.  Wish I could fly out and try a few dozen of these Drewbrews or Wilpils or whatever the hell they are going to call this magical elixir.  Just an FYI, when you described the flavor profile in New Orleans I got a little slobbery, I don't actually have rabies.

I doubt any of them are worthy...

hey Drew, how much is Buzzfeed paying you to promote their links? They suck, by the way. I'd say that in the comments field on those threads, but... oh, those threads don't have comments!

Last I heard, Wil was fed up with the fark trolls, so he hasn't stopped by to chat in a while. It's too bad, because he really seems like a genuinely good guy.

/we won't take your Yankees cap, Wil. Please come by once in a while.

Did Stone Brewery properly give Drew and Reddit credit for thinking of creating beer?

Would love to go to Stone's place, too far.  :(

Picked up their Old Guardian recently to try, good stuff.  Also, I'd kill to get a bottle of Lucky Bastard.

I'm pretty sure its impossible to ever get tired of *the concept of* fellating.... unless you don't own a penis

Sigh, had I known the day of unveiling about a month back, I would've secured tickets and hotel to get me down there. As stands, would have to reschedule flights over the 17th. Especially for this:2006 Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine aged in Bourbon Barrels. I f*cking love barley wines, bourbon barrel aged beers, Stone in general, and Old Guardian in particular, and to have one from 2006 would be amazing; the w00tstout and meeting Wheaton would simply be icing.

I wish Stone wasn't such a one-trick pony.

They've got their mojo down pat, but all their styles are just variations on a basic over-hopped ale style that's basically carried them all along.

It would be nice to see them branch out and try to make something other than strong ales.

I'm so there

Wait, a Fark Party in the City of San Diego?  NOOO!!!!  No longer shall I be able drink the delicious, tasty tears of people complaining about SoCal Fark Parties in Escondido.

I'd mosey on down to Liberty Station, but for $50?  Ouch.  I guess they want to keep it intimate.

Been drinking AB since about '96, when they started carrying it at the brewery I worked at in Phx. God, I love that stuff. Made an AB clone for our wedding back in '96 and I nailed it!  :-)

I'm hoping that this stuff will get distribution outside of CA. I'll have some family go pick up one of each of the bottle in Phx so I can get it the next time they let me out of Mormon country. Even if I don't like this particular brew, the art is awesome. Stone and Flying Dog battle it out for which one has the best art, IMHO. Stone has the better beer, but I really am torn on the art.

It's not a buzzfeed ink, it goes straight to Stone Brewing's website. And the beer is a partnership between Stone, Drew and Wil Wheaton. Since it's Drew's own website, I'd say you should probably fark off and let him link to what he wants to link to.

OK, here's my question. Exactly what does it mean that will is going to perform? Is he going to make a blog post on stage, or does he do stand up now, or what.

I swear. I never learn. It's like I'm drawn to post in threads with plus signs in the summary.

And I hate myself for doing it every time.

It's a huge drive from LA. It's not recommended, 3 hour drive.

To be fair, that style is kind of amateur as far as making it.   Balance is pretty difficult to achieve, but you could be off on your hop ratio by literally 25-30% on AB and still have it come out tasting the same.

I always reserve 2 beers for about 2 years after brewing, they really tend to blend well after that time. It's hard to keep avoiding them, but it's worked so far..

Anyway, when I opened up my last homebrew AB, I actually had a bottle of the real stuff handy and chilled, (which is rare in Utah, let me tell you), and I tried them side by side with my wife and my cousin's husband, with some water in between to cleanse the palette.

After 2 years, a good AB clone had turned into a perfect match, blindfolded taste test wouldn't have even let us in on the fact that they were 2 separate beers. I think I can be a little proud at that point.. :-)

I really need to dust the kit off and start again, I keep forgetting on the payday weeks when we have spare cash. Makes me sad.

I will be taking the train down from LA.  I got a hotel room in Old Town for the night as well (only a mile or so from the event).  I expect to be drinking lots of tequila in Old Town after the Stone party.  Anybody else?

They serve Arrogant Bastard on the train!  I don't think there's a station nearby though.

The brewery in Escondido is lovely but its hotter than blazes out there.
