It doesn't matter if it's true.  What's important is to fully investigate the leaker and smear him as much as possible.  Oh wait... this is about Bush?  THEN BUSH DID IT!

I have been repeatedly assured that under the strict Congressional oversight given these programs, nothing of this nature could ever occur

Shocking.

Maybe giving the NSA unfettered access to all the electronic data in America wasn't such a good idea after all.

Marcus Aurelius: Maybe giving the NSA unfettered access to all the electronic data in America wasn't such a good idea after all.

This is why the Republicans aren't really pushing this the way they've pushed the IRS and Benghazi "scandals."  If they condemn Obama for this, the Democrats can always just come back and say "Wait, wasn't this your idea in the first place?" And I think far more Republican voters like that the government can do this sort of surveillance than have problems with it, just as long as it's not done by a President who is blah.

Not to be the devil's advocate, but Bush was defiant that his domestic spying program was not subject to such oversight.

They both did it but it seems Bush did it for specific political purposes. I'm disgusted either way. A two party system is nearly *twice* as good as a one party system.

No one, not even his political opponents, really wants to remember him. The nation collectively farked up in electing him once and don't want to remember that shame.

Honestly, since the "Bush era" wiretaps are now legitimized, this shiat's going to keep happening.

It's in the Supreme Court's court, so to speak.

Congress isn't going to touch this since the Dems are politically in favor of the whole mess.

Communist Nazis?

Sadly, the people who actually believe this will never realize that Nazism arose as a direct conflicting philosophy to Communism, incorporating the kind of social darwinism and eugenics that the Communist philosophy directly opposed, even as it was bastardized by the Lenninist/Stalinists.

They're incompatible at their basic tenants, united only in their creation of fascist dictatorships which gave illusion of power to the people.

How can Obama be simultaneously a Muslim and a consumer of canines?  I thought that Muslims treated dogs as filthy animals like pigs?

Well, when Obama's gay lover who passed the secret ingredient from Coke to Pepsi is caught in it, we'll see some changes.

Are we nearing the point when Gawd Fearin' Murcans realize that the things that happened under the Bush Administration weren't good things just because they were pointed at Muslims at the time?  Fat America is going to realize just because they didn't like to consider Muslims US citizens, they are citizens, and laws designed to fark over a citizen can be applied to all eventually.

Just as I'm sure the Constitution loving liberals are outraged by IRS targeting. Maybe I'll just use liberal excuses for this and say that it was somehow understandable and justified due to misconceptions I personally have about people... Just like liberals on this site did for the IRS targeting.

Then again unlike the excuses liberals came up with the IRS, I could actually sound plausible if I came up with excuses for the NSA.

But no, I can't for see any reason to wiretap Obama in 2004.

Did Obama ever profess to hating America or wanting to see it's downfall in 2004 or prior?  No.

Did the Tea Party rail against taxes therefore making their tax exempt status filing suspect as all f*ck?  Yes.

No, he only attended a church for 20 years without ever hearing his anti-American pastor talk in spite of the fact that he was married by said pastor. This is also a church that at one time had Hezbollah literature available in it. He's also been associated with Bill Ayres, a domestic terrorist and fully admitted anti-American type.

You might not remember it clearly, bigotry does that to the mind you know, but the primary motivation of the Tea Party was opposition to ObamaCare and fast tracking liberal organizations while pretending that there was some "justified" reason to delay the conservative ones smacks of you being a fascist by the way. By the way when Republicans take control again, and they will sooner or later, you fully support the IRS and every single solitary government agency targeting liberals as okay and justified... What? You don't? Then quit BS'ing and accept that the IRS did something monumentally wrong and completely repugnant... Or accept that it's okay to do it to liberal groups too when the conservatives are in charge.

And just fyi, it wasn't just that the IRS went after some "anti tax" people, they went after all sorts of groups that were billed as conservative.

Now, YOU were saying?

Meh.  Back when I was wiretapped (under Reagan), wiretapping meant something.  They had to physically send someone out to put a bug on your phone line.  Not like these lazy bastards at the NSA today.

WOW!!

You really reached back into the archives for that tripe.
Even managed to squeeze in Bill Ayers.

You don't get full troll points though because you neglected to tie them all together with a SOROS!!!! bow.

I myself think all the "conservative" groups that were denied tax exempt status should get together and file a class action lawsuit

Both of them

Your revisionist history about the tea party being primarily about "Obamacare" is laughable on its face since the first "grassroots" rally was held in Feb of 09 and was to protest TARP and the stimulus.

Or were they so forward seeing they knew they were just have a rehearsal for the rally over a year later that was held in response to ACA?

Which you claim was their "primary motivation"

Won't somebody please think of the Pro-Tax Conservatives????

I mean seriously, get over it.  Tea Party groups had the balls to claim that their efforts to destroy Obama at any cost were somehow "Charity", and the IRS felt the need to double-check.  This is not the greatest scandal in the history of ever.  For crying out loud, Bush had the IRS crack down on the NAACP for years, and the NAACP did not have as their stated mission to "eliminate Bush by any means necessary".

And don't even joke about Anonymous ever being granted tax-exempt status for their charity and political works, hoo-boy.
