Good. he is a good candidate. And "the scream" was him feeding into his crowd energy and fit very well into the atmosphere. it didn't carry well over to TV, then the networks beat it for three days.

Yeah, they just played the scream and made him look like a crazy person.

I still think he would have beaten Bush in 2004.  At least he would have made a far better race of it than that bland douche Kerry did.  People forget that by 2004, Bush had pissed away all the goodwill he'd gotten post 9/11.  He was incredibly vulnerable, if the Democrats had gotten a candidate in there that really could have drawn a sharp contrast between himself and Dubya.

I'd like to see him run again. However it seems like he did a very good job at the DNC so I wouldn't mind seeing him there again

How about VP?  He'd be a worthy successor to Biden.

You can say as many crazy things as you'd like, and as long as you say them in a non-crazy tone, you're a legitimate candidate. But if you get excited at your own presidential rally, and show some human emotion, you're unfit for office. What's so hard to understand?

Wasn't the 'scream' audio tweaked? I thought they had turned down the crowd noise, and increased the mic volume for that bit.

Well all that, plus the news was only putting Dean's direct mic audio to the video instead of the audio from the room.  He could barely be heard in the room it was so loud.  But he was not a main-stream candidate and so they tanked him via AV manipulation and people went for it.

As governor of Vermont, balanced the budget and cut taxes multiple times without jeopardizing the state's social safety net.  He reduced the uninsured percent in his state by a quarter, and halved the teen pregnancy rate.  He improved job creation over his term, and received the endorsement of the NRA.  Why wouldn't you elect this guy?

/I vote YEAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!

Seriously. I love YEEEEEEEEEEEAAARRRGHH too. I was going to Iowa State University in 2004.. i got to meet Dr Dean, shake his hand and ask him a question (I asked him his opinion of the DMCA - he didn't like it).

I was going to vote for Hillary but if he is in I most likely would vote for him over her.

You're absolutely right.  When the hit squads were done with Dean he was a shell of his former self, and Kerry was all set to snooze his way through the election.  I think it would have went a lot differently if Kerry and Dean's places were reversed.

I'd vote for him.  I would have voted for him in 2004 if I could have, and he would have won.

I was a huge Deaniac back in the day, so this is good news. Since Hillary voted for the war, I won't vote for her.

I hope he can make a big comeback. He had a very solid record as Governor, and he's not afraid of telling it like it is.

Howard Dean 2016 has a nice ring to it.

Warren's a bit too new for 2016, and I'd rather see her remain in the Senate.

Obama was first elected to the Senate in 2004. But, she can do more in the Senate than as VP, and Feingold has a track record of being electable in a swing state. I'd take either one, really.

I'd like to use this opportunity to post a big fark YOU to the media for making "the scream" a thing and killing Dean's campaign.  He was the one farking democrat unafraid to call bullshiat at a time when spinectomys were all the rage.  That 4 more years of Bush were really good times.

2013-06-21 02:11:21 PM
Voted for him in the 2004 primaries.

A+++++++ would vote again.

2013-06-21 02:11:31 PM
The "Dean Scream" is almost self describing in how to worked to end his campaign.  In that it rhymes.  Anything that rhymes has to be a thing.  A thing that must mean something.

It still pisses me off that he was simply dropped as a candidate for THAT.  Compared to what nutjob politicians tweet today and still get elected, it is ridiculous.

Hadn't he lost a series of primaries when he made the scream? I thought he was the guy to beat before the primaries started but by the time of the scream his star was fading very fast already.

Correct me if I'm wrong here.

One of the biggest media hit jobs I've ever seen. I remember hearing all about it and wanting to see the craziness for myself, then seeing the video myself. That's it? Dude pumped up the crowd.

2013-06-21 02:34:19 PM
Dean/Warren 2016? I would quit my job and go door-to-door for that ticket.

2013-06-21 02:36:14 PM

PirateKing: Wasn't the 'scream' audio tweaked? I thought they had turned down the crowd noise, and increased the mic volume for that bit.

yep. they played just his handheld mic feed without the ambient room mics. had you heard the entire room, it would have sounded very normal, because the crowd was loud and raucous. it's a bit like listening to the unembellished vocal track of a pop song. it sounds weirdly out of place on its own, but when put into the mix, it sounds perfectly normal.

so, yeah, it was a hatchet job.

Howard Dean

Nah seriously fark this guy.

And if they're not seriously considering Elizabeth Warren as a FRONT RUNNER, I might just kick the whole Democratic Party to the curb in 2016.

Yeah I know that's the year the Republicans are going to run Reagan 3.0. No question we'll be stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Ever look into Jack Ryan, the guy who was forced out of the race and essentially gave Obama the Senate seat in 2004?  I'm still blown away he got dropped for that, that was a Republican I could get behind and they ran him out of town like a snake oil salesman, just because he wanted to have sex with his smoking hot (now ex) wife in front of other people in a private setting.  Foolish!

The scream was made the night of the Iowa caucuses. Until then, he had been considered the forerunner, and his main opponent in Iowa was Dick Gephart. But the Kerry and Edwards came out of nowhere while those two were fighting each other, and Dean came in third. The scream happened, the media gave him shiat for it, and was essentially over. He only won Vermont from then on out (and that was after he dropped out of the race).

/couldn't remember the timeline either, so I looked it up.

Dean would have a tough time in the national election IMO. Northeast liberals are not viewed favorably in national elections, especially white make ones. The socialist, commie becomes an easy sell to the public from attack ads, justifiable or not.

I did come across harsher than I meant.  My feelings are closer to yours on this, I don't want to fight my parents (stupid) battles again, I want to keep moving forward.  Now, who that will be I have no clue, but there are worse places to start looking than Dean.

He's not from Massachusetts and had the NRA endorsement, its gets a lot harder to sell the commie thing w/ those 2 things
