The article doesn't state how many agents will be added to the Canadian border.  Just an omission? or because they're mostly white and speak english, except Quebec which speaks french and probably needs extra guards.

Border surging?

I'm the libbiest lib that ever libbed, and I really don't have a problem with increasing the size of the Border Patrol. Not everyone who's trying to get across the border is doing so for benign reasons and there is a large amount of drug smuggling and other crime committed across the border.

Also, I don't really have a problem with requiring people to immigrate legally. I realize, from a realpolitik perspective, that with 10 million undocumented immigrants here already, most or all of them will have to be amnestied, but that doesn't mean we can't try and discourage illegal immigration from now on.

I look at it from a sense of politeness and a concern for legal representation. I'm great friends with my next door neighbors, and I would be welcome to crash there any time, but that doesn't mean I could sneak into their house through their unlocked door and sleep on their couch without asking first, y'know? And when you come to this country and are undocumented, you lose a large amount of legal protections - your "employers" can easily treat you little better than slaves and in terrible working conditions, and your options for recourse are slim.

".. and implementing an E-verify program to prevent illegal immigrants from getting jobs"

Yet they will blame Obama for the increase in spending for both paying the wages of the new jobs, training, etc... and biatch about government tracking you...

Yeah, funny how the only border they're concerned with though is the one with brown people on the other side. Also, what's with all those drugs and crime coming from across that border? It's like drugs are illegal on our side and that fuels a billion dollar, black market industry and all the violence inherent in it, or something.

Good thing NOBODY is just saying, "F*ck it, just let 'em in," then.

Too bad nobody wants to go after those employers then, right? Certainly not Republicans and as it seems, most Democrats don't either.

I suspect nothing is actually going to change. We may get a tweak here or there, but I think we get more status quo.

/could post that in any political thread.

I am. I think it should be as easy to cross the Rio Grande or the 49th parallel as it is the Mississippi.

Immigration deal would double size of Border Patrol

Force feeding double cheese burgers to la Migra? Gonna need much larger vehicles. Fatsos don't run as fast.

Nice joke, Subby, but Mexico already has marriage equality.

==========

So, our borders are not secure-- and we spend HOW MUCH each year on our military?

Whatever gets spent on border security should be taken directly out of DoD -- or we should be giving the Army that job-- hell, it should have been their primary job all along.

We never would have needed all that border security in the first place if we had ever bothered to implement a policy that actually punishes businesses that employ illegal aliens in a major way. We should have been using RICO and asset forfeiture laws to seize these businesses and treat their owners like drug kingpins-- because, really, they're not much better.

Thanks to businesses knowingly employing large number of illegal immigrants over the years we now have this vast, poverty-stricken, non-citizen underclass with all the social ills that come with it.

Well, it's a satirical view of the situation in that french is not english and therefore unamerican (if you're a right winger.)

Sorry I was so rude.  Poe's law and all that, ya know.

And I keep getting pissed off when I think about the whole immigration situation.  Things could be infinitely better today if our country hadn't been so racist and greedy.
