I wish I'd crushed more of my enemies, seen them driven before me, and heard the lamentations of their women.

I wished I had gotten to get laid more often

2013-06-21 10:56:24 AM
Unfortunately, if I allowed myself to be happier (#5), it would involve several felonies that would probably result in my early death and my regret in indulging in #5.

My only regret?

Having Boneitis.

Well, I'm sure there are things they don't regret, too, but go ahead and make them concentrate on the negative while they're dying.

2013-06-21 11:02:48 AM
these are dumb.

wishing you didn't work so hard means you would have been poor and you would not have even had the luxury of thinking about all the things you wish you could have done... because you would have had to work just as hard, but doing something infinitely more boring and less rewarding.

/ where do you want stress? at work or at home?  work hard, make money, your job is stressful.  don't work hard, make less money, your home is stressful.
// that's why: booze.

I regret not having that second piece of pie.

Stupid article is stupid. It's impossible to live with no regrets (unless you're virgin born again who can't wait to die to see Jesus.) For example, after reading this article I said to myself "man, that is profound. If I could live today like it was my last, what would I do?" I thought about all the things I'd like to get done around the house, but maybe put that off to go fishing with my son, but then I thought I'd really like to sleep in. But would I regret sleeping in if I didnt get to spend time with my kids, or regret not fixing the door the old lady has been asking me to? Who knows. Moral of story: Regret is part of life kids. Life is full of disappointment. One day you're a hero who fought for your country, and the next day your daughter kicks your dying ass out of your own house while you run through the list of things in your mind you should have done better.

Yeah, the regrets other people have at the end of their life aren't necessarily a roadmap for what to do with your life. They have no clue how things would have turned out if they had done things differently. Maybe if they had done things differently, they'd have been much worse off. Dying doesn't give you special perspective on your life.

I heard the Video Game Girl that appears on TV with big hair give a talk at TED about this and why VIDEO GAMES positively affect all those five regrets.

She makes a GAME for people to be BETTER.

TFA: "Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result."

... the fark is this shiat I'm reading?
Not only is it a trite retread of unactionable-shiat-we-already-knew, but it's a carrier for some Etheridge/Secret hippy bullshiat?

/ of course dying people regret spending their time building a nest egg they didn't need, instead of doing other things
// just as there's no shortage of broke-ass, still-living people who regret spending their time on other things, instead of working a little harder and saving a little more

There are a lot of people out there who work like dogs and are poor anyway. We call them the "the middle class". Then, when they lay dying, they realize they got punked. I think that's what the article is talking about.

Meh.  When I was dying, I was oddly complacent.  I just accepted that it sucked and figured id go commit some felonies for cash or something if the moment was really upon me.  Maybe shoot that one guy who needed to be shot.  You know the one.  Mostly though I just didnt care... even though I knew I should have.  Just the way your brain works I guess.  Made me understand how people make the decision to sit down on Everest etc... your brain chemistry really is just different when its in certain stages of stress.

/What? I got better....   and now I've become very determined to be rich, or at least have a bunch of effortless revenue... because you only live once and its way better than being poor.
//and im going to have to be wealthy to pay back all these farking doctors....

"Merciful Father, I have squandered my days with plans of many things. This was not among them. But at this moment, I beg only to live the next few minutes well. For all we ought to have thought, and have not thought; all we ought to have said, and have not said; all we ought to have done, and have not done; I pray thee God for forgiveness. "

Exactly.

A wise man once said that the unexamined life is not worth living. So I decided to examine life very very closely. My examination lead me inexorably to the conclusion that life isn't worth living.
