Looks like the aviation equivalent of an antique car show.

Basily Gourt: Looks like the aviation equivalent of an antique car show.

More like a new car show, with companies showing off their current and future products and concepts. And their customers have much deeper pockets than the average car show visitor.

Does anyone know any cool videos from this air show? specifically the helicopters and the airbus.

There is a video of the SU-35 doing its thrust vectoring thing in the comments for that article. I think there were some helicopter videos as well but I did not look at them.

The pics all seem to be mostly aircraft that have been out for a decade-plus.  If there are any future products it's pretty hard to tell just from TFA.

What kind of camera can totally freeze props and rotors - I don't think I have ever seen that - and I'm old.

It is simply very high shutter speed. I have some airshow show shots with my DSLR that look almost fake because the props are so crisp they look like they are not running.

A rule of thumb is to shoot 1/320th or slower to get at least a bit of prop blur or you will completely freeze the prop and the pics start to look fake

If you want prop freeze, set your camera to shutter priority mode, pick your shutter speed (1/400th or higher should do it), and take a shot of the sky. If it is too dark you'll need to up your ISO and try again.

We used to have a pretty sweet air show in Ontario but not anymore (THANKS MONEY).

Dad used to take me out of school on the day after the show ended so we could watch them all take off and go home, which is actually better than the real air show which consists of sissy bi-planes doing stupid loser tricks over and over. We just wanted to see the F-4/14/15/16/18/117, Tornado, Harrier, etc, take off. A bunch of like-minded nerds would park/chill at the end of the runway so the jets went right over us. Most of them did a few passes and generally made a show of it for the 20-30 people watching.

That is seriously cool. The only big name airshow I have attended was the 2005 Oshkosh show in Wisconsin. Got to see SpaceShip One and the White Knight come in and land, and also got to see Glacier Girl (the P-38 Lightning) up close. We usually have a decent local show every even year with the Great Tennessee Airshow, which is just 15 minutes from me.

At first I thought the A380 was pulling some serious G's, but then I remembered just how much lift that thing's wing has to generate just to keep it in the air.

It's literally ripping the water vapor out of the air and forming clouds just to be able to fly. It's mildly insane for that aircraft to even exist.

Have you ever made it over to the Military Aviation Museum near Virginia Beach?  They have a hell of a collection of WW2 and WW1 aircraft and most of them fly.  When you go you can get a close up of the entire collection (3 hangers full) and they are constantly working on them so you can see a few of them torn apart for repairs.  When we were there in April they had the Mosquito and a V1 rocket torn apart and the took the Yak 3 out for a test filght.
