Fingertips can be regrown, especially easy with small children.

Medicine beats faith healing!

dont you mean severed?  doesnt amputated mean it was intentional?

could be wrong here.

On the bright side, I bet more than a few treadmills were freed up when this 9 fingered brat started screaming her fool head off.

Reminds me of the time when I was a small child and I stuck my finger under the needle of a sewing machine. I didn't lose the finger but having a sewing needle driven through it hurt like hell.

Sometimes parents bring their little rugrats to the gym and let them run around playing with the swiss balls or whatever. It pisses me off so much. Sorry lady, but the place where I'm doing deadlifts and powercleans is not your daycare center. It's stupidly dangerous.

wow what an unnecessary trauma for some poor kid

she didn't lift the weights herself
so obviously someone was doing it around a 2 year old
and somebody somewhere didn't give a fark

But really, how much can 12 pound weights hurt a kid.

If you don't want your two year old to have their fingers smashed then don't bring them to a gym with heavy equipment. Your kid, your problem. It's not my job to watch her.

I am. It's really hard to find a decent gym here. It's one of the reasons I'm looking forward to moving back to the states.

Every summer like Clockwork the base gym is flooded with Parent's bringing their kids with them to workout.  The gym is no place for kids at all.  Most adults don't even know how to conduct themselves properly.  Sucks that the kid got hurt, but it is their parent's fault 100%

Yeah, my gym has a specific play room where kids can go to play and watch TV and play with the supervisor's iPhone while their parent's get a workout. It's the first thing you see when you enter my gym, since they have the play room right against the glass facing the street.

The child was transported by ambulance to Jersey Shore Medical Center, Dollinger said.

Is she getting a spray tan while there too?

I suppose that's better than letting them play with the benwah balls?...

I bet she didn't even have the courtesy to wipe down the equipment for the next person.

2013-06-21 12:58:35 AM
Serves the kid right for leaving the workout bench sweaty after she finished her reps.

It didn't work for me. A furniture dolly fell on my finger when was 3 or 4 and pinched off the tip of it. I have a deformed nail. Basically it looks like a dog claw. The padding on the tip of my finger was stripped away by the accident so it's just skin and bone. It hurts like a motherfarker if I whack my finger on something.

Well, this place has babysitting from 4-9 pm, so that should be a real help, right?  Oh, wait.

Poor parenting skills were shown by someone, who I hope feels quite guilty. Those places tend to have signs warning that little kids shouldn't be around heavy machines.

2013-06-21 01:03:37 AM
Machines are for douchebags. Freeweights and everyone is happy, always, for many reasons. One of which is nobody f's around with free weights they can't lift to begin with.

So before signing up you are supposed to ask how many farking children will be running around the gym while you are working out?

You sound fat.

2013-06-21 01:12:07 AM
I go to a "family" gym and this would've never happened there. Of course, I live in California where everyone's afraid of getting sued, so that might have something to do with it. I was amazed when I went to a gym while visiting Portland and they let me work out without verifying my identity making me sign a release.

If you have a weight stack at home and worry about the kids touching it:

1) tell them not to touch it.
2) tell them not to touch it.
3) get one of those baby carrots or a carrot tip, lift weights, drop stack, show the kids the result*.
4) tell them NOT TO TOUCH IT!!

*please don't crush your hand cleaning the carrot mess

2013-06-21 01:13:58 AM
Did anyone lift a finger to help her?

.....a timely protip.

My left ring finger was severed and hanging by some skin when I was two. My uncle was folding the bed back into the couch and didn't see me on the side with my hand between the bars. farked up my first knuckle and left a gnarly scar.

It my right finger, also hanging by a thread. Too small to reattach.

Yep, this happened to me.

Only I was 25 when it happened.

And I put my hand in the weight stack on purpose from sheer stupidity.

Aaaaand, well, there's really no excuse. I got what I deserved, which is a permanently deformed little finger because of a severed tendon and a crushed joint. Dumbness gets its just desserts sometimes.

It's not that severe. I'm just missing half the last joint, and I have a "dog claw."

My dad had an Old's 91 98 w/automatic trunk close. Caught his ring finger in it...the ER sewed it back on, but it still died n fell off. Grew back ok, not even a mark...sometimes stupid has temporary results. Not for this girl sounds like, she's stuck with mom for a while still.

Hahaha, ah geez...his fingernail, not the whole finger! Ahahaha!

Sounds like some negligent parents need their child taken away from them.

So, when's the pay-day on this one going to be?

Have some more kids, Einstein.

When I was in kindergarten, my class was assigned a fun project of decorating steel ashtrays that had razor sharp edges, by gluing on tiny ceramic squares. Predictably, I nearly severed the last joint on one of my pinkies. It's fine now, but I have a bit of a frankenstein scar where it got sewn up.

/who hands a 5 year old razor sharp metal?

Cps will investigate but removal would be unlikely as long as there are no other threats to health or safety.

There's a gym out there that not only allows tiny kids to roam free, but the employee's tiny kids?  Wow.
