Mr. Pie had some and declared that it was dry.  Yes, he did eat the whole piece.  But he didn't stop there.  He went one further and told me to ask my sister in law (my brother's wife - who is a fabulous baker) how she bakes her cakes and maybe she could give me some pointers.

sharbear: olderguy - I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the YEAR of TF.  I was totally in tears. I saw that you didn't get your day off, and was sad.  I hope by now you are on the couch with furkids around you and the remote control!  You made my day, my year, my friend. I will give as is given to me because after almost losing my life, I know what's important in life.  If we could vote for the Caturday Person of the Year, I'd vote for you! Thank you, dear friend.    =^.^=

I made it a couple of years ago to take to a family get-together.  Hubby doesn't like cocoanut, but loved this cake.  One of my brother-in-laws stood over the nearly empty dish "cleaning" up the edges with a spoon! Yeah, he got scolded by his wife for that one!

Hey people...
Riktor's vet visit went well; he behaved himself beautifully (as usual). His weight is in the 'low normal' range for him, but just to be safe the Sainted Vet took some blood. They're going to check for several things, including thyroid function.
I want to thank all you guys for making me aware that hyperthyroid can be 'silent' and still cause kitty a LOT of discomfort...so I asked that this test be included.

Baby Casper has taken over the group home- everybody just lurves her to pieces. When I got to work last night, she came running up to me and greeted me as though she knew that I'd provided a lot of stuff for her.
She's a pants-climber, but seems to be very careful about 'fabric, not skin'...the cloth on my pants was not thick, yet I didn't get clawed. It's a bit early, but I think she shows promise...and doesn't seem to mind hullaballoo...the place can get pretty noisy at times.

Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: While everyone else romps around the bathroom chasing mom and each other, the twins take a well needed nap.  Can't prove they were twins, but they were born about 3 minutes apart, and aside from the sex and white stripe, they're almost identical.  Not to mention that they always sleep touching each other.

exvaxman: My feral cat story. My parents had a huge black cat in their yard that when the door was open would come into the kitchen for food, he eventually would be very friendly. One summer there was a kitten following him with a cyst on its' head. When I came home from school, she asked my to catch it so we could turn it over to the vet for treatment. About five minutes after that, I saw the kitten while I was up high on the deck and dove down and grabbed it. So here I was walking into the house with a very scared and panicked cat with all claws operating every chance and screaming loudly. As I started down the hallway dripping blood to get a blanket to wrap it in my mother looks at me very crossly and says "I didn't mean now!" The vet took care of the huge cyst and said that they would bring it to the humane society. I was really bandaged up.

Strangely enough, my mom did exactly the same thing once. We noticed a little orange out on his own, and said it would probably be good to catch him before he got too big. Came home the next day to find my mom dripping blood all over. She just said, "He's behind the TV."

thank you... love it when lurkers join the family.... great addition.... just fed the crew.. and raining out there.. had a towel ready to dry Fred.. seems like I will need a bigger pet door to the utility room.. he has ... put on some weight....still quick as lightning, though...   thought I would get some play time with him today.. didn't work out..  hopefully tomorrow... when he starts galloping around the yard, you can almost see the ounces shedding.... apparently he hides when I am not there.. feral instincts are hard to break.. not unhappy about that, though.. keeps him safe... weather permitting, tomorrow will be yard work for a good part of the day, and he will get some exercise....

Yes, this is what I worry about. So grateful that no onlookers were physically injured, but watching that happen could make for some very bad memories. Dayton has a great relationship with Wright Patt Air Force Base where the show is held, and the show is a major source of pride for Daytonians. We are all sad for this family-friendly event to become a bad memory for people. And, for two talented people to lose their lives. The only blessings, if there are any, is that the end was very quick and they both died doing what they loved.

HALP!

I need computer advice. When I try to close out a link, it will close for about 2 seconds..then pop back up and start replicating...same link trying to open over and over (and over...).
I have to go to the Task Manager and "End Program" repeatedly to get it to stop...think the record was same link loading 5 times.
This sometimes happens when I try to close out the FARK site...and it happens only on FARK.

Can somebody 'splain me WTF and how to make it STOP?

Thanks....

~*~*~*~

A rather good poppy seed cake:

1 box Duncan Hines yellow cake mix (a professional baker recommended this if you absolutely HAVE to use a mix)
1 large box Jello cook-n-serve (NOT instant!) banana pudding
Butter
Orange juice concentrate
1/3 cup poppy seeds
1/2 tsp almond flavoring (go gently with this; it is not as 'forgiving' as vanilla if you use too much)
slivered blanched almonds (optional)

Mix the pudding and cake mixes and add popy seeds (all dry ingredients together).
Then just follow the instructions on the box, except substitute butter for oil and orange juice concentrate mixed 1:1 with water for liquid...same amounts. Add the almond flavoring.

I use a Bundt pan (well greased with butter) when I make this recipe...you can sprinkle the slivered almonds into the pan before putting the batter in.
Cook as directed.

Sorry for being AWOL tonight! My dear friend, and computer IT person came over to look at my stuff again to try and figure out why the hell it's acting up!! Turns out that my modem is toast...well maybe. But we have a new one on the way! After that he looked at some other stuff and tried to "ping" my router...and it's definately toast!! Kept "timing out". So....I have a new modem, and a new router on the way! Plus, just for shiats and giggles, I ordered a new mouse....it's PURPLE!!!! :D
