Missing my little buddy Pumpkin Head today.

What a handsome kitty! How long were you best friends?

I got to know little Pumpkin for a good ten years, sadly we lost him a few months ago, he was almost 21. He had a good life though.

Huck And Molly Ziegler: I'm not having a good Caturday because Pica, age 5, neutered male, black-and-white, rescue kitty five years ago, didn't come home last night and that's not like him. He's always waiting when I return from work because he's generally been outdoors for at least 12 hours and is therefore hungry (and wants some attention).

I've always thought he was pretty smart and able to avoid danger, but it's times like this (he's only done this twice before) that I worry he's run into something he couldn't handle.

Give him at least two days maybe even three, I have two cats that have done similar only to wait a day or two and they show up. It hurts, but usually it works out for the good.

Afternoon Family!

I won't be around today, I'm going to be at my best friends place
so he can keep an eye on me.
I will return tomorrow to continue my usual mayhem and to catch up.

Behave!

While everyone else romps around the bathroom chasing mom and each other, the twins take a well needed nap.  Can't prove they were twins, but they were born about 3 minutes apart, and aside from the sex and white stripe, they're almost identical.  Not to mention that they always sleep touching each other.

My sweet Hermie, looking all spotty like.  Someone saw his picture last week and said 'Bengal'.  I would think he might have some in him.  But not 100%.  It would explain his athleticism.  And body build.

Hermie and my Charlie look almost like twins and I am sure that Charlie is a Bengal.  He was about 4 1/2 months old in this picture:

Wow! Our Sneaker turned 18 in May and we thought that was a good run. 21 reflects really good kitty servants. Congrats on giving him a long and love-filled life. We are never ready to give them up. So sorry for your loss.

The window work is done for the day. Desi (I'm assuming it was him, I don't think the other 2 would have done it) tried to break out of cat jail, he got caught. The door has pet-proof screening, he just pulled the screen and spline loose from the door!

Sugarbear Update:
Okay, I got my boy home last Monday. He had his operation Friday and spent the weekend recuperating at Mountain Vista Animal Hospital. He had to have his leg amputated because it was cancerous. The tumor was just in too deep and that was the only possible treatment. But I wasn't aware of how much leg the vets were going to amputate. I was planning on asking some model builders I knew with access to a 3D printer if they could build Sugarbear a prosthetic leg. But after I got to Mountain Vista and they brought Sugarbear out to me I knew that wouldn't be possible. There wasn't anything left to attach a prosthesis to:
Maybe NSFW http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg235/Themightyhaggis/DSCF0614-Sma l l.jpg
I have to be honest and say that I'm still kind of in shock.
We brought him home that same Monday. For the first couple of nights he stayed in his kitty bed, obviously in a little pain and feeling more than a little grumpy: Again Maybe NSFW  http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg235/Themightyhaggis/DSCF0619-Sma l l.jpg
The other cat, Zooty (named after a Babylon 5 character) took awhile to get used to Sugarbear's appearance. A couple of times it got nasty, but that's all smoothed out now I hope. Last night there was a breakthrough of sorts in that Sugarbear wanted up into my bed. To make it easier on him, I got rid of the metal frame and sat the boxframe square on the floor. I then took a milk crate I was using to hold small parts and a plank to build an incline at the foot of the bed so he would have an easier time getting in and out of bed.
Sugarbear insisted though in jumping up into bed with only the one back leg, although Zooty seems to like the incline as his new fort.
Sugarbear has another appointment tomorrow. He looks like he's going to make it.
I would like to take this moment to thank a particular mystery Farker for making Sugarbear's operation possible by donating a fairly substantial amount to his veterinary ta ...

I pitched in a bit for Sugarbear. I like to think that people would help me out if anything ever happened to McLovin and Truman. Stay safe and happy guys and love to your furry kids.

Greetings all--

Thanks for help cheering me up a little.

I'm still depressed about having to let go of Anya, my "pretty little princess" early this month.

Here she is in better days, Halloween a few years ago:

img.fark.net

She developed tumors in her mouth that were obviously bothering her. Eventually she couldn't eat and  she became seriously underweight.  I put it off longer than I probably should have because Anya was still very affectionate and was snuggling with me almost every night. I'd wake with dried gross stuff she drooled while we were sleeping.

I don't know if she could have been treated if I got her in early on. The vet said probably not, but I suspect that was just to make me feel better (he knew how little I could pay, and was nice enough to give me a good discount on Anya's exam and putting her down.)  I have been struggling to even pay my mortgage on a crappy teacher's salary-- a series of large vet bills were sadly out of the question.

I cried like a little girl at the vet's.  Ever see a 43 year old fat guy holding a dead cat and crying?  I bet it wasn't a pretty sight.

Also depressed since I'm unemployed (technically-- I'll very likely have another teaching job soon-- doubtful if it will be one I like, but whatever.)  Even worse, I'm starting to think something is screwed up with my brain chemistry.  I see a doctor Tuesday (thank the goddess for the free tribal health clinic!)

==================

Anyway, here are some pics I found in my wanderings of the intertubes.  Hope they haven't been done to death here:

lethological_lassie: Anastacya: Hallo all. I am not a regular really, but things have been so chaotic. Stormin' Norma Jean, the basset hound, turned 10 on the 7th, and the blind old gal enjoyed a piece of cake, a sip of rum, and some milk. She then farted her thanks and stunk up the living room the rest of the night.

Cats are doing great. Peridot will be a year old in a month; my little kitty isn't so little anymore...

Glad you un-lurked to tell us about your beasties. These can make it a photoessay!

Oral cancer is quite common in cats. Sometimes due to chemicals in the environment..like second hand smoke and sometimes even the lawn treatments. I suspect that just acts as a trigger for a gene expression..That said, my folks went thru this with two kittehs. They were both quite elderly at the time. And no, not alot you can do. There is surgery, but often they take large portions of the jaw. (eep!) I don't think I could do that to my cat. You were a good parent, and did what you could at the time. And besides, when you are employed again, maybe you will be called to a new animal in need.

What nation are you from? Curious cat wants to know...that and last time my son and I went to a Pow-wow we got asked tons of times "who we belonged to.." I have olive skin, dark brown eyes and dark brown hair..

Timid Goddess how cool is this! Where we vacation in Michigan is where the Odawa and the Ojibwa "hung out". And...waaay back in my Great Grand Mother's day, she was great friends with the Native Americans in her area. She was quite an herbalist, and I am absolutely convinced that she and her Indian friends swapped remedies. I have several baskets that I know were made for her. Probably as trade items for things grown on the farm that they didn't have. I'm thinking eggs, as I have heard alot about the hens, and about her roosting Turkeys! She is actually the basis of my Civil War character..

Timid Goddess: Pottawotamie

Citizen Potawatomi Nation, actually.  My wife (Timid Goddess) has no indian blood (calls herself a "Swedish Meatball.")  I'm brown hair/eyes, fairly light skinned.

My two year old daughter is one among an increasing number of blond-hair, blue-eyed indians.

Thanks for the words of support.

Sickapie: Sorry about Anya.  Hugs for you.  As far as the depression goes, if you read upthread, you're in the right place this Caturday.  %-)

Yeah, I noticed-- that's why I posted.  :-)  Also, thanks.

Even though I'm spending most of my time in a darkened room trying not to wish I was dead, I'm pretty optimistic-- at least on an intellectual level.  I've responded pretty well to "happee pills" in the past, and I'm lucky enough to get them free at the clinic.

=================

I sure wish every American (especially my wife) could get the health care my daughter and I are entitled to by accident of birth -- anything considered "medically necessary" is free, and they're somewhat liberal with what "medically necessary" means. I usually have to wait a few weeks to get in to see a doctor, but if I need to I can always go to the multi-tribe urgent care clinic (though it's a two hour drive-- for some crazy reason they located it WAAAY out in the middle of nowhere.)  "Life or limb" emergencies I can take to the ER, of course-- just a lot of paperwork then.

The docs all work on salary, so they don't focus on rushing as many people through as possible-- they take their time and listen to the patient. They're also not tempted to do unnecessary treatments to get extra money.

It's all horribly socialist, and no doubt makes the babby Jesus cry-- but it sure works for me.  Hell, I'd still go to them even if I had insurance (which they gladly take if you have any.)

Sorry for the rambling.  Here's a pic of Timid Goddess and Maggie:

Oh my, I haz a sad. I just heard that a wing walker was killed in Dayton, after the plane crashed. My son and I have seen her work. It was amazing, Rest in Peace, Jane Wicker. You are soaring with the angels now.

tigerose: Timid Goddess how cool is this!

My Great Grandmother was born and grew up in Miller, back when it was Dakota Territory.  Now it is in North Dakota.  I grew up in Minnesota, through about 5th grade.  I remember going to Minnehaha Falls a few times.

sharbear: olderguy - I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the YEAR of TF.  I was totally in tears. I saw that you didn't get your day off, and was sad.  I hope by now you are on the couch with furkids around you and the remote control!  You made my day, my year, my friend. I will give as is given to me because after almost losing my life, I know what's important in life.  If we could vote for the Caturday Person of the Year, I'd vote for you! Thank you, dear friend.    =^.^=

Very glad to be able to do that... we look out for family here, and I am happy to see you posting.. and you can join us on Purrsday again..  got a good nap (with cats)... not happy with early Saturdays, but this situation was something that I needed to be there for.. good for the company, got the roof fixed and the leaks stopped.. the new AC units have to go where the bad area of roof was.. built a 22' x 8' deck to go on that spot, for the units to sit on.. laid down rubber strips on the new area to protect the roof.. chemicals in the wood corrode the metal of the roof.. so that won't happen again.. got a crane coming Monday to set the deck on the roof, as well as the new AC units.. we should have cool offices by mid week.... ya gotta do what ya gotta do...  and won't have trouble sleeping tonight !   Do not set the alarm Saturday night, so extra zzz,s in the morning.... things like this keep life interesting....

She looks so happy.

I fell asleep on the sofa last night. Cassie snuggles up against me and purred all night. I woke at first light, King George was on the porch rail crowing, but when I looked at the window I saw Fiona STANDING on the back of the sofa whining at the window. She never wants to go out but this morning she ran out when I opened the door. Then I remembered seeing the skunk going across the yard a few days ago. Whatever she saw was gone but she spent time at the base of one of the oaks. She peed twice at the base of the tree and then did a slow circle around the house sniffing for something. Thank goodness she did not find the skunk. I don't think it was a squirrel as she is not that interested in them. Now that she is a house dog she seems more interested in guarding her place. She even barked at the neighbor returning my incubator and brooder. It was not a "stay away" bark but more like a "come, look" bark. I need to encourage that.
