IRQ12: So hard to separate the trolls and retards in a cop + dui + "off duty" thread.

No, not really. If you see 'stress' or any synonyms more than once it's a troll. Otherwise..

ransack.: I feel bad for this guy. This will ruin his career and his life. If I got a DUI, it would cost me some money and I'd lose my license for 30 days maybe and have to go to six AA meetings or something. This guy will lose his career, his pension, and his moonlighting gig. Everyone deserves one second chance.

I have no problem with holding the guys charged with enforcing the law to a higher standard than you.

BitwiseShift: StinkyFiddlewinks: Wow, it takes some balls to fark with a sheriff around here, and yes as a cop. Northshore MA for anyone wondering.

They're even tougher further north, in say, Maine.round Kennebunkport

That looks fake.  Why do democrats need to fake stuff to make personal attacks?  It's not like there's any difference between Bush and Obama.  It's also not like Obama isn't an unapologetic hard drug user who described himself as a junkie in his book.

Yes. Yes you are. That or you're a troll. Not only should cops not be held to a lower standard, they should be held to a HIGHER standard. Can't handle the stress of the job?...become a plumber.

ransack.: HelloNeuman: Jobs in law enforcement can be VERY high stress and often lead to difficulties in both personal and professional life. Let's  try to understand what issues might have lead to this unfortunate circumstance and begin to consider the BEST way to allow him to heal.
Forgive, treat the problem, and the result is an improved officer with the personal skills needed to meet the difficult tasks of day to day law enforcement.

You can't expect the men (and some women) that do these jobs to be treated the same as a 'normal' man on the street with a non-stressful job. They deserve some leeway and a bit of drinking while driving should be tolerated unless it becomes cronic.

If this isn't a high-level troll, then I'd like to buy you a beer. I seem to be pretty alone in my sympathy for this fellow and you expressed my sentiments very well.

Meant to quote this before invoking Poe's law.

ransack.: Sin_City_Superhero: Troopers arrested Meyer about two hours after the crash when he refused to take a field sobriety test.

So they gave him two hours to sober up, he refuses the breath test (buys him another hour or so), and he still blew a .13. It's nice that his buddies tried to help him out...

He didn't refuse the breath test, he refused the "walk in a straight line heel to toe while I blast you in the face with my flashlight" test. Refusing a breath test is a crime itself, and they take your blood if you do it.

Not in Florida, or lots of other states.

You just kindly tell them to fark off and you lose your license for a while. Yes, you still might go to jail for the night and it's going to cost you, but there is a lot less evidence to convict. Of course, this is all first offense stuff.

Hell, didn't even get a ticket for the first accident that I caused.

30 days driving ban for DUI? Really?

I'm pretty sure it's 18 months minimum in the UK.

If that's all they are, why are they given that much authority? I barely trust 'some dude' to obey the law, much less enforce it.

If they want to be held to the same standard as some dude, that's fine. They can take the uniform off and be some dude. They also lose all the authority and responsibility that is given to cops (yes, even off duty cops). If they want more authority than some dude, then they get more responsibility than some dude.

Wow you are so full of fail, Cop taint must taste chocolate icecream to you.  Most cops are cowards who go after soft targets.  They fear real criminals and do not take them on for fear of themselves and their families being targeted in retaliation.  They spend more time writing Legal Extortion Fees then investigating actual crimes against persons.

So a little drinking and a minor accident and you think he should get the death penalty? I don't suppose that you've ever done anything you shouldn't have? Remember, these brave men and women are the only thing between you and anarchy! Just give them a donut now and then and a bit of special treatment when driving drunk.

I never said anything about the death penalty, maybe a little eye for eye, he gets rear ended by a drunk(pun intended), jk, it should be up to a jury of his peers.  If they are the thing between me and anarchy I'll choose anarchy because then I can properly defend myself to the death if necessary, If they are protecting me by pepper spray girls, beating handcuffed suspects(sometime to death), executing peoples pets, and hundreds of other excess violent displays of "authority", no thanks.

What about the kittens? If there are too many kittens free and without anyone to claim ownership and they find their way into YOUR yard, who will you call to shoot them?
