(NPR)   Once upon a time, governors -- regardless of political affiliation -- were considered to be America's most pragmatic politicians. But that was a long time ago, in the days before derp   (npr.org) divider line 33

Also known as B.R.

Before Rove.

W was a pretty good governor, and should have left it there.  Instead he left Perry in charge,

We've turned our politicians into celebrities.  So, it's inevitable that we're going to get pieces of shiat like this who are willing to do or say anything so long as someone puts a camera in front of them.

Insofar as our politicians are sociopaths motivated by greed, we can't forget that they are also narcissists craving the attention they believe will bring them validation.

In their defense, a lot of them are also genuinely incompetent and are more than willing to pave the road with their good intentions.

Here in Georgia we had the choice of an arrogant SOB prior governor who claimed in radio and TV ads that his opponent voted to allow women to get raped or his opponent who was tainted by corruption and just about had to file bankruptcy around election time (though that was because of his stupid kid).

We chose the latter because we had enough of King Roy Barnes.

Karen Handel probably would have been governor except there weren't enough people who were willing to vote for a woman.

As the article states, too many governors are hoping/wanting to use their position as a springboard for a Presidential run or at least get enough national attention then can get a Fox News contract, get in a good think tank, and get on the lecture circuit.

Does it say more about McCrory or the nimrods in the NC General Assembly that he's not seen as the driving force behind the sheer stupidity this year?

While it saddens me, the best thing about Schwarzenegger as Governator was that he could not advance to Presidentator.  His goal was to make California better, not toe the line to gain support of special interest groups and national voters, and that is admirable and rare.  More naturalized citizens for governor!

As a Coloradan, I'm very disappointed with our governor.  It's good to put that disappointment in perspective.

I like how NPR is trying to be impartial but the worst case of extremism from Democrats they could find was Maryland abolishing the death penalty.

Impartial? It was the veneer it needed for its concern trolling.

Such inelegant trolling works on simple minds.

Ending the death penalty: totally radical, and in no way shape or form a long-overdue reform.
Making electric cars illegal to sell and college students voting illegal(my state): equivalent and the same level of irrational.

Yeah, but after the Republican Party has been tolerating the "WHAR BIRTH CERTIFICATE, WHAR" derp for closing in on 6 years now, no way in hell that the requirement the President be a natural-born citizen is going anywhere.

Anything to do with domestic politics, I usually turn them off pretty quick.

Even something that should be nonpolitical, like women's health issues, might have someone from CATO on for another view.

I have no doubt they would make an exemption if the person was "one of theirs."   Five dollars says 90% of the birthers would be fine with Cruz.
