The fact that Nye knew a thing or two about science (whereas the actor who played Beakman didn't) might have helped his longevity.

I do recall learning a lot from Beakman about things that Bill Nye did not show on his show. But they are both people of my childhood and I am glad Netflix has Beakman on it now. Now all we need is Bill Nye and Ill be reliving my childhood science shows all over again.

Damn. I grew up on Mr. Wizard and I'm ten years older than your fiance. My kids (and I) watched Beakman, Nye, and VHS tapes of Sagan's 'Cosmos' growing up. You younglings make me feel old.

Bill Nye < Smart(Phone+App) = Spreading the dumb with lightening speed.

As a child of the 90s, I approve of this headline.

Bill Nye is a scientist. Paul Zaloom is an actor.

I won't even try to parse the 'equation' you have shared with us. I will, however, point and laugh at you.

Uh, yeah. So?

I think Beakman is funnier, and way weirder.

My kids LOVE Beakman on Netflix and they get the Bill Nye dvd's from the library all the time. I'm ok with that.

I think the point is that Bill Nye has the knowledge to back it up, Paul Zaloom is just some schmuck playing a part.  Even Mr. Wizard, though not formally educated in science, had more science knowledge than Paul Zaloom.

Always found Beakman entertaining and Nye annoying but I applaud the work he's doing now.

It's true but, honestly, when I was the right age to watch either show, I preferred Beakman.

These days, I've come to appreciate Nye, but both of them served the great cause of helping to excite kids about science.

Wow.. didn't know Beakman was gay.

Bill Nye got his start doing sketch comedy on ALMOST LIVE, so while he is, in fact, a mechanical engineer
by training, he has acting chops, and I would put it to you that it was those chops that have given him the
success he's had as a mass media science educator as much as his first-hand scientific skills.

yep, be it brunette, redhead, blonde, or.. Nubian... this woman's overall features set me off.. I am perfectly fine with calling it a fetish. I am a freaking viking of a giant mutt of Europe redhead, and I have dated black women and redheaded women because they have that hair and  those facial and body features.

As much as I liked Beakman growing up, it's the perfect example of 90's-style forced wackiness. The bright colors, the strange costumes, the excessive use of fish-eye lenses, the sound effects etc. Makes the show look horribly dated.

I think the point is they all made science fun, and got kids interested, and for that they deserve much respect.
