DrPainMD: Serious Black: Secrecy of income is how a lot of businesses get away with pay discrimination. After all, if you're a woman and you have no access to any info that would show you how you make 10% less than the men with the same job description and experience in your company, how can you possibly know you should sue?If the woman is offered a certain pay/benefits package for a certain job, and she accepts the employment offer, she has no grounds for a law suit.

gochuck: It's like this in government. The salaries of Federal employees are public information. It's a great way to figure out what level of compensation you should be at.
Serious Black: I think a lot of people who "support" the free market really only pay lip service to their ideal.
