As someone who doesn't own a 3D TV, how big a deal is this? Does sports in 3D on a television really add anything to the game? Or is it just a gimmick to sell more expensive TVs?

ESPN is shutting down their 3d channel later this year

33DD?  Not bad.

Not much reason to watch Paraguay without the 33DD coverage.

That's a shame. I would really like it to look like I am right there inside the stadium when England go out in the quarterfinals on penalties yet again.

Assuming you're thinking of the kind of stadium where if you're not sitting in the exactly correct position, the perspective and parallax don't match the stereo separation; and where turning your head doesn't cause you to see a different part of the field: then yes, it's exactly like being right there inside the stadium.

The only thing this latest attempt at stereoscopy has done is to poison the expression "3D" for an entire generation in the unlikely event that somebody actually comes up with a viable technology in our lifetimes.

I don't know, the oculus rift sounds like it's shaping up to be pretty sweet.

Women's Beach Volleyball must have been something to see in 3D. It will be missed.

Thank god.  The offside rule is enough of a pain to follow in 2D.

Anderson's Pooper: Thank god.  The offside rule is enough of a pain to follow in 2D.

*sigh* Let me explain.

If a team has a striker between the opposing team's rear-most player before your upkeep step AND the ball is played before a double-shift to Tottenham Court Road was declared, then the battleship is offside and the other team gets a triple word score. How hard is that to follow, I mean,  really.

What's the Over/Under for deaths at the WC?

Columbia won't make the World Cup, but Colombia is looking pretty good.  Only three points away from first place with Argentina with a game in hand, seven points ahead of the cut line with just four games left.

Draw two.  Can be a yellow, red, blue, or green card.

Draw four is wild card.
