We are now at an average of 1.25 overtime periods per game.  If we keep this up and go to Game 7, this might be the greatest Cup series since at least 2006, but more likely since 2004.

Well you have it good.
We couldn't even WATCH game because the local affiliate showed 24/7 fire coverage...and had been doing so for several days.

I don't think people watching a game on tv can be reasonably expected to move to a computer and fire up a stream within the 20 seconds or so the ads were on.

Serves 'em right for not cutting the cable and going a la carte.

I don't know why Google picked Austin as a roll-out site, buncha backwards ass hicks.

Is hockey hip to hipsters in Austin?  Figured the kids down there are too busy listening to some band you've probably never heard of.

If it makes Austin area hockey farkers feel any better, the game kept cutting out throughout much of the second period for me.

Bob Schnieder.  Terribad, but his album covers are hilarious.  At least I think they're supposed to be hilarious.

What in the world are you on?

1) It was on broadcast TV, not cable.
2) You can't "go a la carte"
3) Austin isn't, in any way, a "buncha backwards ass hicks"

2) You can't "go a la carte"

Pardon me, I thought there was a website or an app or some sort of gamecenter where one could stream live NHL games outside of broadcast TV, which could be done over some sort of Google fiber network.

Carry on, then.

This was a game I gave up on in the 2nd, came back in the third, and followed online while Daily Show/Colbert Report was on.

This series will kill off too many hockey fans if it keeps up.

Wait, you think people should have paid for a monthly service to see something that was on broadcast for free?

I'm just bitter that Austin has Google fiber and not Dallas.  I live in Frisco, a suburb north of Dallas. Google has an office here - get us fiber!

I don't know for sure if it was an option last night because naturally I saw it on TV, but NBC Sports streams a lot of their events on their site so no worry about all those pesky trojans and viruses and spyware and whatnot from those dodgy streams.  I'm pretty sure it was available for Game 1 -- I checked into it because we had a weather forecast of DOOOOOOM for that night and I wanted to know if I had options in case I lost satellite reception.

Cool photo bro, but it's useless without context.  From the date of the url, it's a Feb 2011 photo, which coincides with a massive ice storm in the Dallas area.  You may have heard of it, it farked up the Superbowl that year.   Let's get some more context from the site you linked from: http://wheresrooster.com/road-stories/an-ice-storm-in-dallas-a-hockey - game-tx-day-212-2111/

Imagine that, it's the very same ice storm and attendance was way down because of it.

To put this into focus... NBA Finals Game 6.. overall rating.. 14.7 nationally.. NHL Game 4 Overall Rating... 2.2.

Yeah.. no one really cared in Austin.

Though, to be fair, the fact that not as many people were screwed as could have been screwed does little to mitigate that...people were screwed.

The best part of that link, and usually the case for Deadspin--is in the comments:

Followed by the response with the Austin heel turn clip.

There are thousands of Albertans working in the oil industry in Texas. The authorities must be thankful the streets didn't run with blood and maple syrup last night.

If that's the Austin-area ratings, that might have to do with the fact that the NBA Finals contains the local team in the Finals (Spurs, San Antonio is only 90 miles away).

No, those are national ratings. For some reason, Fark really thinks people care about hockey. The NHL game ALMOST edged out a CSI repeat for top show of the night, though.

It would be nice if people are talking about ratings if they at least used the right numbers.  The guy above was miles off.  The rating cited for the NHL was the 18-49 overnight/preliminary rating.  The NBA's preliminary 18-49 rating for Tuesday night was 6.5, not 14.7.
