Strangely enough, in Colorado where you can legally possess and smoke weed, you are still not legally allowed to tell a person selling you a pipe that it's for weed.
I'll still take that over Florida.

Laser-like. Focus. On job creation.

I think this law will get tossed very quickly considering that tobacco users are really pissy when it comes to defending their rights to smoke tobacco out of a pipe.

2013-06-20 07:16:08 AM
Whoops, nevermind. This kind of law is around on many states books.

From a different news article:  http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2013/06/rick_scott_signs_pipe_ b an_that.php

The law says that a person has to "knowingly and intentionally" sell a pipe for illegal drug use to get arrested for a criminal misdemeanor. A second offense will lead to a third degree felony. That means a smoke shop owner or employee has to know without a doubt that you intend to buy a pipe for drug use. They can still sell pipes for tobacco purposes only.

Be that as it may, it doesnt even come close to being rageful.

This blogger believes that FL is banning all forms of smoking pipes. That is the point the blogger is trying to make. That isnt the truth at all.

You know this will target those caught with weed devices in their possession, and that's the real point of these laws -- another reason to incarcerate the poor and non-white.  Considering the number of pot smokers in Florida that are from Haiti, Latin America and Asia who consider it almost part of their heritage I think we can agree what this law will manifest.  Small-government conservatives have never been for small-government.

Actually, this bill was sponsored by ex crack head Darryl Rouson (D). He was an R at one time, but switched to D. He's a huge asswipe regardless of the letter behind his name. But the R dominated legislature was happy to pass the bill and Governor Skeletor was happy to sign it.

I f*cking hate this state

shiat I know. I used to want an actual glass bong til I owned one,I was terrified of breaking it. I'll stick to my 2 liter pop bottle, middle of a pen and old bowl from a broken bong any day. It hits like a champ and I can easily shiatcan it if needed without thinking I've wasted a ton of money. So this law is basically saying again that pipes and bongs must be sold for tobacco use only? What are they gonna do track and follow the people who bought them home to make sure?
/The Botany Bay in Richmond,Ky had a huge sign up with the shop rules on it and you had to show ID before they'd even let you back to the area with the glassware. The sign stated that you weren't allowed to mention any drugs, call a crack pipe a crack pipe or a coke spoon a coke spoon and the standard "Water pipes and pipes are for tobacco use only."
//I really want to go back to there and look around.

Elections have consequences.

2013-06-20 08:05:25 AM
Based on my research, I'm OK with this type of legislation. You see, what we're doing is preventing a certain demographic from voting, because as you may know, when you outlaw bongs, only outlaws will have bongs. Once caught twice, these scofflaws will have a 3rd degree felony on their hands, which will prevent them from voting in elections. Due to the highly addictive properties of their drug of choice that second charge is basically a slam dunk. You smell that? Victory!!

I can't speak for any other state, but I imagine such a thing exists here in Pa and has for a long time. If you are in a smoke shop and even mention anything related to marijuana, even if it is just to your friend you are there with and unrelated to what you are purchasing, they kick you out. I was in one once with my brother and in conversation with him, I said "roach" (yes, I was referring to the last bit of a joint, not the bug) and bang, we had to leave without making our purchase (we were only there to buy screens).

I have to agree, probably a retarded law, but this is hardly outrageous.

Bongs are cumbersome and unnecessary items, I prefer to stuff my weeds into the crotch cavity of a beautiful woman, spark it up using her pubic hair as kindling, and ingest that sweet, sweet curly smoke by sucking on her ass.
The taint passage does a great job of filtering out all the brown acid they spray on the crop from the magenta helicopters (next level up from black), makes for a decent buzz if you want to lick it off but does have hints of lavender and a self-transforming machine elves aftertaste so be warned.
word to the wise though, sparking up a human-pipe while driving is problematical in the extreme, last time I tried it I drifted across all the lanes on the Beltway while spinning like some kid on a BMX, ended up having to throw the 'pipe' out the window as it wouldn't stop getting back on my face even though I'd smoked it out.
If that's wrong, I don't want to be wrong.

Finally a well thought out solution to the marijuana scourge on our country.  If these wastes-of-life druggy negro jazz musicians can't get a glass pipe to mainline their marijuana sticks with, they'll finally sober up, stop raping all the white women, and get a job.

Have to point out that  cman is completely right here. The only thing this bill does is amend already existing law so you can't sell pipes/bongs/etc. that you know will be used for illegal drugs. It was already illegal to own paraphernalia with intent to use, and it's still a misdemeanor if you're caught. It's only a felony if you're caught selling the things to people who you know intend to use.

Misleading headline is misleading, etc.

No, not single handedly, JEB Bush was killing that boondoggle long before Rick Scott took office.

Anyway, the electronic cigarette stores are the new head shops.  It won't be long, if not already, before those devices are used for drugs other than nicotine.

FTFA:Work says the Florida Smoke Shop Association raised more than $100,000 and hired a lobbyist to make sure their livelihood wasn't destroyed. "If you don't like the way the people who get elected are governing then you have to get involved," Work says. "We beat them at their own game. Unfortunately to play their game, you need to raise money."

So it's really about pumping money into the legislative system.  How are they, the legislators, any different that a mafia protection racket.
