mafiageek1980: MayoSlather: ontariolightning: Sorry to hear that. Sucks for his family. My thoughts are with them.
However, The Wire > Deadwood> Oz > Six Feet Under ....................................................................  The Sopranos.

The Wire is overrated. The Sopranos is infinitely more watchable.

Allow me to settle this little tiff real quick: "The Wire" was good "The Sopranos" was good, "Deadwood" was good, and I have no opinion about "Oz" or "Six feet under" cuz I never saw them.

RIP "Tony". Damn good actor!

Edie Falco was in 'Oz', at least the first couple of seasons, then she got the part of Carmela and left. I think she did do a VoiceOver years later, in the last episode of the show.

I don't have any idea how many hours of my life I spent watching him, but it was probably more than any other actor. I loved that guy, and always wished he would do more than the small parts he had done lately. Now that won't happen and I have a big sad. Rest in Peace Mr. Gandolfini, you will be missed.

tenpoundsofcheese: - someone asked you for statistics about the risks of a fat vs. skinny person dying of a heart attack

Uh, no. he did not. He asked me this:

jaytkay: Please educate us with statistics showing skinny and fat people are at equal risk of hard disease.

That's nothing what you say he asked me.

Next time, read a little better before you go off on a soapbox. You look less like an idiot.

I always liked those scenes in Sopranos where he would get all worked up about something and not say a word but just breath through his nose.  He could carry a scene with his nose breathing.  I might just go on a Sopranos marathon this weekend, I really miss that show.

You know what the strangest damn thing is? ....... Earlier today 6/19/13 at about 3:30ish pm -- I was on my back porch day dreaming, having a cigarette.. And for like no reason what the hell so ever my mind wandered and I started thinking about the Soprano's.. thought about "The Bada Bing"... how my mom told me there a lot of the series was shot in East Hanover where she grew up..

Having NO PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE of this event or when or how it happened in fact seemingly before this occured.

But this is an absolutely true story I'm not making this up in any way.. I specifically remember having this line of thoughts running through my head earlier today.

It drives me to wonder what do you make of that? The fact that I would connect and almost receive the information "early" in a precognitive manner is kind of spooky to me.

of course skinny people die of heart attacks.  medium weight people also die of heart attacks. so do left handed people as well as right handed people.

I hear you Dave, I'm not a total farkwad in the intellectual department. Its the most logical conclusion... I'm just saying it seems strange given all considering from my standpoint, it was a very arbitrary and seemingly unlikely set of thoughts that occurred in a very short subset of time periods concerning the governing circumstances.

mechgreg: bulldg4life: What's the over/under on number of posts before someone tries to claim Tony Soprano doesn't die right at that black screen?

I'll take that one. He didn't die. A surprise twist where Tony dies is super hackey writing. And David Chase is a lot of things but he wasn't a hack.

Actually, he did. Gandolfini said they filmed a whole death scene for Tony and he was upset that they didn't use it.

2013-06-20 02:46:55 AM
On the up side...he did leave his mark.  A pretty farking huge mark, if you ask me.  And he provided for his family.  You can't ask for much more than that in a life.
He will be missed.

Eh, Gandolfini was also a well-known party guy. I recall him filming here in New Orleans and part of his contract stated that he couldn't be out boozing or whatever all night. Sure enough, he was so hungover on one day of production that shooting had to be postponed for the day (and that sh*t's expensive). Apparently he was at The Abbey, which doesn't surprise me because that's also where I used to go at 6am with all the other people who just don't know when to call it a night. Coke, drunken girls, whiskey flowing like a river...that's why god gave us 24 hour bars.

geedavey: Wonder if it was air flight-related deep-vein thrombosis

Very real possibility after a long flight, but most will overlook that possibility due to his size. Personally I'd like to hear if it was. I remember David Bloom, who pretty much seemed like the pinnacle of fitness succumbing to the same thing while embedded with troops during the early days of the Iraq war. Cramped up while travelling for long periods of time, would not have helped matters.

MayoSlather: The Wire is overrated. The Sopranos is infinitely more watchable.

The Wire was underrated, actually, if we're sticking with the traditional meaning.  You just can't bear to watch Baltimore.  Don't fault yourself, nobody can.

The Wire and the Sopranos are too different to compare on one parallel field.  As far as watchability goes, the Wire and Sopranos used similar hooks. The Wire had some more grounded and honed down writing, and the Sopranos would shoot into orbit every once in awhile, which was great.  If anything Sopranos, Oz, and Six Feet Under are closer in style and dialogue.  I'd only compare the Wire with Game of Thrones, and that's a comparison I'm struggling with nailing down at the moment.

Not that it matters, they're all great television.

A very good friend of mine was in great shape, rarely drank, never did drugs.  Died of a massive heart attack on the beach at age 45 a couple weeks ago.

Merely living is killing people every day.
