Very sad. A first-ballot New Jersey Hall of Famer. RIP.

The Wire required an attention span longer than a gnat. That's why I gave up.

HBO makes great shows. I keep wondering when they will fark up.

So sad to hear this about Jimmy, but  he should never have pulled a gun on Denzel.

Biological Ali: astouffer: mechgreg: I'll take that one. He didn't die. A surprise twist where Tony dies is super hackey writing. And David Chase is a lot of things but he wasn't a hack.

The best explanation I've heard was that you the viewer, was whacked.

Hmm. I hadn't considered that. I think that might be my favourite interpretation too.

The viewer was meant to experience the feeling of being whacked through Tony, but to suggest that the show "whacked the viewers" is ridiculous.

There needs to be a word for people finding delight in an incorrect audience-focused interpretation.

You sound like you have a learning disability, and I truly hope you get help for it. Adult remedial reading classes are typically free.. On the other hand, I'll ignore your inability to read what I said, and point out that yes, obese people DO do better at surviving a heart attack on the virtue of having collateral circulatory system development in the myocardium.

He sings and bangs a foulmouthed Kate Winslet in John Turturro's "Romance and Cigarettes", a strange and wonderful film, criminally overlooked despite its outstanding cast (Sarandon, Walken, Buscemi, Izzard, and many more).

Watch the trailer.

Few actors in recent memory have embodied a character so fully as he did Tony Soprano. I enjoyed him in everything I found him in, and I will miss his work.

Well, given that the Journey guy let the show use that song, it would appear that Tony didn't die at all (or at the very least, that he wasn't "whacked'). So the idea of a random observer being killed would make much more sense in that context.

Wayne 985: JosephFinn: Atomic Spunk: The biggest shock to me was that he was only 51 years old. I thought the guy was in his late 50s to early 60s. Very sad, though.

I had the same thought!  So he was what, only 37 when Sopranos started?

Check him out in The Mexican some time, an under appreciated movie.  He's got a really nice piece of work there (also, Brad Pitt's broken/non-existent Spanish is perfect).

I forgot that he had so many great scenes with Brad Pitt. True Romance, The Mexican, Killing Them Softly (which wasn't "great," but was still decent and the performances were amazing).

Huh, didn't even know he was in it!  Adding it to the queue now.

I would say the finale to Newhart was the best. But certainly The Sopranos finale has been one of the most consistently talked about.

I think of The Wire as more of social commentary than simply cops and drugs, but there is something to what you say.

Anyway, I'm not trying to turn this into a different thread.  The Sopranos was unique in showing the family aspect, but mafia shows usually go:  Work up through the ranks, kill off rivals, and live the high life until some young guy does the same to the original protagonist.

It's a shame the guy died so young.
