Mike Chewbacca: ZAZ: H + N + Cl → HCN + lSimple high school chemistry.Who knew that hydrogen gas, nitrogen gas, and aqueous chlorine come together to form hydrogen cyanide and iodine solid? I sure didn't.
subfactorial: divx88: oxygen displacement is a biatchThis was my first thought but TFA say the LN2 reacted with the Chlorine? Any chemistry whiz want to comment on this because I don't see it.
Testiclaw: COMALite J: divx88: oxygen displacement is a biatchBut it may be the single least painful way to die that doesn't involve leaving a really messy corpse (or being totally vaporized in an instant or some such).I am all in favor of having death penalties being carried out by noble gas inhalation. I think it's a profoundly humane solution, and elegant in its simplicity, in a morbid way.Wasn't the original proposal to pump a gas into the prisoners cell on a random date, effectively they'd go to bed and never wake up and not even realize what was happening?
Cyno01: Dry ice woulda done the same thing and been 100x cheaper. Still probably wouldve asphyxiated partygoers though. What you want is a bigass fog machine then you run that through a box filled with dry ice, then you have nice safe propylene glycol smoke thats cold so it stays near the ground.
ReapTheChaos: We used liquid nitrogen when I was a machinist in the Air Force and had to take a day long safety course annually to do so.
