Open highway with good visibility and good weather.  Safe car and capable driver.  Why is this a bigger fine and suspension than drunk driving in Alberta?

It's highway 22.  If the mounties waited a few minutes more, the would have caught some guy in a souped up 4x4 pulling a trailer going at least that fast.

There's a reason it's called the cowboy trail.

Its a dumb excuse.  If you have any respect for your car you dry it with a chamois.  That said a license suspension for barely clearing 100 mph seems crazy.

Cop hit me with laser at 105mph, successfully shifted and he didn't even try to come after me.

I've got to say that you're coming off as a huge prick with a small prick and sooner or later you'll get caught. Radar isn't the only way to catch someone speeding.

Correct, but Radar is much easier to detect than laser. When they try to nail you with radar, you have a much larger window of opportunity to slow down to the speed limit. With laser, if you have a shifter, their display comes up blank.

Because King Ralph drove drunk, not fast.

This is "news" today because of the CBC's coverage at the start of the week about efforts to give the PoPo in Alberta more seizure and detainment powers under the guise of "clamping down on dangerous speeders".. because enforcing the existing laws is just too tough.

On the Autobahn, no one would ask, and you wouldn't tell.
