How come no USA thread Tuesday evening?

Mid_mo_mad_man: How come no USA thread Tuesday evening?

Maybe someone didn't submit one or Unfreakable wasn't around to greenlight one.

This thread is a bit late for the Mexico/Brazil game, but alright I guess.  Game started out well, but has gone a bit flat.  Brazil should be well in front, but have flubbed a bunch of chances.  Mexico has also had a couple of chances to level it.

I think the Italy Brazil game will be awesome though.

Also:  ain't it funny how people were waxing poetic about Mexico storming to qualification and being a real threat in the World Cup while the US seemed stagnant under Bob Bradley?

Now:  (with Jurgen at the helm and Altidore seemingly starting to mirror his form in the Eredivisie) the US has one foot in the door to Brazil...and Mexico can't even score at home.

Things can certainly change quickly in world soccer.  Remember that in the last round of qualifying, Mexico had a perfect 18 points while USA only had 13 points, and Mexico had the much tougher "second" team in Costa Rica in their group.

One wasn't submitted. Would have been an easy green if it had been submitted early enough. Lots of people following the US team.

Nice moves by Neymar!

2013-06-19 04:56:59 PM
Great second goal. Neymar putting his name out there for tournament MVP.  If Italy beats or draws Japan, then they and Brazil are through.  Mexico wasn't really playing like they were about to be eliminated.

That was a fun game the other night.   I've been loving the ESPN coverage.  Haven't seen this much soccer, well, ever.

So when is Mexico going to fire their coach?

Should do it on the field after this game, but they'll probably wait until the end of the tournament.

United has an absolute killer of a start in the PL.  Moyes is going to have to weather that storm.

That was an exciting end to the BRA-MEX game. I can't root for Mexico - they are too much of a rival to the USA and the way their fans treat opposing teams and their players is just deplorable. I do like to root for Italy anyway, and now they have a chance by a good result against Japan to knock Mexico out of the tournament. So Viva Italia!

Sorry I didn't sub a thread for the weekend games, was a bit busy. Ans sorry I didn't sub a thread for US Qualifiers either.
I'm slipping.

Good luck to Andy Carroll, wish him well.
Really want to see another Tahiti goal, think the roof might come off the Maracana if it happens.
Spain looks like winning this whole thing, but Brazil might just give them a run for their money. Should be a cracking final. Of course, the last time Spain was in a semi-final in the Confed Cup...........

Don't like that date. Transfer window is still open, Bale may still be there.

If Bale wanted to leave, he wouldn't be playing on Deadline Day. Hate to say it to you, but he's more than likely staying.

I drive home from the gym and Japan collapses! Come on 3rd Japanese goal!

2013-06-19 07:22:52 PM
I left work, Japan were 2-0 up. I get home and make dinner, now they're 3-2 down. I take full responsibility for this.

The media may make a big deal of bad run but Moyes has SAF in his corner and has said give him at least a year. No one in Cheshire is going to turn on Moyes for at least 6 months.

Plus Japan now level it!!!!!!

3-3 and what a game. The old men of Italy are slowing down.

What a randomly awesome sporting event this is. Both Italy and Japan are playing wide open, fearless football right now.

2013-06-19 07:33:58 PM
Japan's not eliminated with a draw, but it'll be hard for them (they'll have 4 Goal Differential to make up between their game against Mexico and Italy/Brazil).

Considering its two "neutral" teams the crowd has been up for this as well.

/Brazil has the largest Japanes disporia
//Also has a large Italian disporia as well.

So close again!

2013-06-19 07:39:54 PM
LOL at the white European guy playing for Japan.

Ooooohhhh, shot off the post followed by a shot off the crossbar. Japan really want this

2013-06-19 07:40:17 PM
HOW DID THAT NOT GO IN?!?!?!?!?!

We've secretly replaced the Japanese national team with 2011-12 Liverpool, let see if anyone notices.

This game has been very entertaining.

Terrible ref (both PKs), but they are negated at this point, so no one will remember the awful PK calls.

2013-06-19 07:43:25 PM
Oh for farks sake.

Typical Italians

2013-06-19 07:43:55 PM

Italy with the killer goal.

Japanese team will be gutted now

I didn't know Post had an Italian grandmother.

Pity we won't see him playing for England, he's a great defender.

Italy to beat Spain 2-0 in the semis, only to lose 3-2 to the Brazilians.

2013-06-19 07:51:52 PM
Sigh, I guess that's Brazil and Italy through.  I was really hoping Japan could get the great escape.

It's really a shame that game was only a confed cup pool game. It deserved to have more on the line.

That guy is bananas.

He's also the first transfer target I go after in every FIFA season since, I dunno... 2010?

I'm going. I've always wanted to see a WC, and since the US got robbed out of it in 2022, Brazil is the next best (read: cheaper than Russia and Qatar) choice. I do feel for the people, seeing their money go towards shiat that doesn't actually help them in the long term sucks ass. I hope the situation changes down there in a year.
