Kudos to Harvey, rauch is one intimidating looking reliever.

As a Mets hater, I'm sorry they didn't come to blows.  Rauch would have ended his baseball career, possibly his life.

Another reason why rookie hazing is stupid.  These are grown men - if you assault them they WILL fight back.

I'd say to leave the only highlight of your team alone, but hey.

Yeah...for like 5 minutes. Not exactly a reason to hold a grudge and hate on the guy for all of time.

Get over it.

Doesnt sound like Harvey asked for him to be released.

Gunny Highway: Doesnt sound like Harvey asked for him to be released.

Yeah...tfa is a little light on details. I was under the assumption that Harvey and Rauch had a noticeable divide between them after the incident that was not going away. It would be better if a clubhouse leader intervened and straightened it out. But in the absence of that, if two guys don't get along and one is an up and coming star and the other is a journeyman reliever....you know who is leaving. But Harvey might have to learn the hard way that on every pro team he will ever play for there will be a few guys that he will not like....or will not like him. You still have to learn to be teammates and progress toward the goal as a team.

Here is hoping he learns that skill.  On a positive note, he seems to have the "lead with your play on the field" thing down.

For sure. Between he and Wheeler the Mets rotation looks good..... at least 'till they find a way to screw it up.

Dumping a bucket of ice water on someone is stupid. HAHA, you are wet and cold!

Hell, I'd throw a fit if my phone got wet, and I only have about twelve numbers in there. I can't imagine how many a pro baseball player would have. I know some phones automatically back up contacts, but not all do. What about dick pics photos and videos? What a colossal pain in the ass, just so another grown man could tell his grand-kids one day that he pulled a prank on another pitcher? Grab a bat and beat that funny man.

A bucket of water? sounds like a titty baby - jeez and I had far worse in high school. I was a sophmore pulled up to varsity to close and the veterans would have me run laps in the sun for a good 3 trips around the park to make sure I was drenched soaking wet.
We usually had practice after school, so naturally the three laps wern't really out of the ordinary - until it was time for my assigned seat in the bus. We had a van in which the air condition vents could be opened - so they put Flour and all kinda crap in the vents. The assist. coach would drive, when everyone was packed up he'd start the engine and turn on the air - then BAM whoever got the special seat was covered in flour.

We have showers at the stadium which we share with a local college, so it was all good fun - I didn't bother to shower when I got flowered - rather I stayed in the bullpen to the amusement of everyone with flour all over my hair and face etc.

/Some players on my team got expelled for harsher hazing after I left high school, college didn't have any that I knew of, but then again nobody really pranked a pitcher it seemed to be taboo

They have a great rotation, they just need someone in the outfield.  Davis turning into a complete turd didnt help either.

Agreed. But it's a lot easier to find serviceable outfielders to fill a gap while looking for your version of Trout or Harper...or even Puig. As long as they draft accordingly and spend wisely. But baseball always has and always will start with pitching. So they seem to be on the right track.

What the hell has Jon Rauch ever done to earn the right to haze anybody?

Then again, you could say the same thing for anyone on the Mets who isn't David Wright.

Yanks_RSJ: What the hell has Jon Rauch ever done to earn the right to haze anybody?

To be fair, Rauch is very good at being tall. One of the best in the game in that regard. All of his advanced metrics point to him being "tall".

2013-06-19 02:53:38 PM
Rauch is a tool--I saw him get in a fight when he was playing for Toronto, when he had to be restrained from attacking two umpires.  Even the Toronto fans were jeering.

2013-06-19 02:55:21 PM
Challenging someone to a fight is so f*cking retarded. You wanna fight someone? Then just do it. It sounds like he got all fratboyish "you wanna go man! Huh, you wanna go!"

Both of these guys sound like total tools for different reasons.

REO-Weedwagon: Both of these guys sound like total tools for different reasons.

I agree with both of these statements.

And I too remember Rauch losing his shiat in Toronto.

But I'd be willing to bet well over half the players in pro sports would be considered major douchebags if not for their ability. Although if not for their ability, they probably would not be nearly as big an a$$hole as they have become.

So there's that.

I'd be pissed off if that happened to me, too.  As a rookie, I'm happy to carry your luggage or buy the donuts or wear embarrassing outfits on the final road trip of the season, but physical harm or trashing of expensive or potentally priceless (perhaps some pictures/videos/numbers he didn't wanna lose) belongings?   That crosses a line.  Hazing is a stupid ritual that needs to go the way of the dodo.

The Mets got rid of Rauch because he's not very good.  He did have a solid year last  year, but he's been terrible this year, and he's the sort of guy who probably gets hit harder once a division's had a look at him (hey, he's still in the nl east and getting smacked around.)  His stuff is meh, but hard to pick up cause he's the tallest player of all time.

And it's not like Harvey said to ditch Rauch or anything.  Everyone probably hates him.  Dude's been on 7 teams in 11 years.

Let's throw everything under the term "hazing" and act as though it's all equal. Just like anything involving genitalia at all should be considered a sexual crime.

If you can't see the difference between throwing some water on someone and having someone walk down an aisle where everyone punches and kicks him in an effort to prevent him from getting to the back of the bus, you're...well, the kind of person that writes American laws.
