I have taken extreme closeups of a stink bug, and now I know I should have picked a more colorful species. Mine was the boring brown marmorated kind, because they are easy to find in the mid-Atlantic states where I was. More accurately, they are almost impossible to avoid. I wish they tasted good.

I'd step on it.

That's a fact.  The one saving grace for me is that I seem to be among those who can not smell them.  But they are still everywhere, and love to dive bomb me.

They smell like cilantro/citrus to me, which isn't the worst smell, except that you can't get rid of it.

I've dealt with bedbugs. Stinkbugs now elicit more of a "Meh. That's mildly irritating" reaction from me.

Meh - methinks I could easily win a fart-off with that little thing!

For shame.

Gah! A landscape picture! Hold me!

There's a couple better one's on his flicker, I guess. Maybe not everyone liked bugs as much as I did when I was a kid, but I've seen the head of a bug before. You just have to hold it still so you can get a close look.

It's the extreme closeups of mouth-parts that still gets me occasionally.

Prior says he's unsure what purpose these features serve, though University of Machester zoologist Matthew Cobb suspects they might might be involved in chemoreception.

I keep seeing Charleton Heston running through the neighborhood, bellowing "NOSTRILS! The common stink bug is made of NOSTRILS!"
