Francis doesn't seem like an easy guy to work with. One of the few songs Lovering gets to sing lead in ("La La Love You") begins with Francis shrieking what sounds like "CHICKEN BUTT!!" a few times over.

I mean, fark, man.

The difference is that The Stooges largely became MUCH bigger and influential well after they had done the bulk of their work.  The Pixies were big but they just weren't gone long enough nor had they had as much nostalgia behind them when they decided to cash in....I mean.....get back together.

A better example of a band being successfully revived would be Swans. It wasn't for nostalgia but rather because Michael Gira just wanted to create music that fit the concept of that project again. As ironic as this might sound on the surface, the reason that the more recent Swans albums will likely appeal to their older fans is because they weren't created for the sake of pleasing the fans. The spirit of the band is still there, unlike many of the bands who reunite and either just play live or release a disappointing new album.

If the Pixies were in their late 20's that might make sense, but they are all in their mid-to-late 40's.

It might be better to look at it through Gender Politics. Men tend to fight loud, violently and intensely, which makes the issues easier to resolve. Women tend to do more passive aggressive and backbiting, making it tough to deal with the problem and tough to forgive. And men vs. women (if that atlantic article from a month ago can be trusted) fight really really mean and unfair.

You should probably not post if you have no idea what the lyrics are

Like with Metallica in Some Kind of Monster, that Pixies doc was brutal.  The band seemed extremely disparate and aloof.  And I apologize, but Kim Deal is full of shiat (at least she came across that way).

Pop is an artist, and he's lucky to have a foil like Watt in the band--this propels the creativity.  And Ron Asheton played that part before he passed.

You can't really create when you have an artistic saboteur in the band.

And the Catholics ruled.

I call Bullshiat on this entire premise.  The Pixies reunited for 10 years...  Thats not a failure at all.  10 years is more than some bands get period.

And put on awesome shows for their fans.  I really don't care if they're whining and pouting backstage.  All that matters is what they do on stage.

When she was young and cute, it was endearing.  Now that she's old, fat and wrinkled, it's just annoying.  I vote to replace her with Melissa auf der Maur

the Pixies are the most over rated band of all time.  simply not very good.

eh, I'm not sure the quality of the Stooges' recent output is something the Pixies really wanted, though I do agree with the premise that a reunited band should write more music.

very true but most of FBs solo stuff is amazing.

Because some bands are really good and most bands aren't?

I've followed Iggy solo and Stooged since "New Values": He and they still deliver the goods: raucous rock and throbbin' gristle.

I still see Watt play around LA. Drives the same old white van, same speaker and amp stack, same beat up bass guitar. Mike Watt is farking punk.

Go to 14 Below in Santa Monica to see him play with Stephen Perkins and Peter DiStephano as Hellride.

I saw The Police on their reunion tour/We Need Money Show. It was the weirdest show I have ever seen.....it was like they forgot how to play music, and so slow and plodding. Why even do it if you just don't want to?

If they don't write new material, that just means they are a cover band. It's a bigger failure when the audience actually wants new material.

Saw him in Ann Arbor at the Blind Pig like 15 years ago. He sold T-shirts from the stage after the show.

He came through Madison a few years ago and crashed at my friends' house.  I stopped by in the afternoon and he was getting his haircut by the lady of the house (who is not a hairstylist by trade) in the backyard.
