Genius! That's the LAST thing they would expect! Next, they're going to find out a gay bathhouse on Castro Street is run by Southern Baptists.

I just always assumed one or more of the Asian organized crime syndicates were trafficking the women that end up in those places.

Do you have to pay extra for that?

This is one of those things that I am so glad Ashton Kutcher is fighting hard against. Human trafficking is real slavery in the modern age. Lately I've heard that Milla Jovovich is also opposes human trafficking, and every voice counts in this fight. I hope more people speak up about this to help bring an end to the utter destruction of personhood of the slave victims of trafficking.

Yeah, me too. Around here all the "Oriental massage" places are pretty obvious fronts for prostitution. Every once in a while you'll hear of a police raid and some arrests. They travel up and down the east coast, the girls aren't in the same city for very long.

I stopped reading at "Chinese Mafia". Anything which has to correlate triad with mafia to get the point across is not worth reading.

Americans equate Mafia & gangster to the point they're synonyms. Triad? You mean Big Daddy, Junior and Spook?

The local newspaper article that triggered all the action on this:

http://www.7dvt.com/2013inside-vermonts-asian-sex-market

Basically, the reporter went around to all of the suspected "happy ending places" and got himself good and groped in each of them, before cutting the happy ending short and telling them he was married.

The owner of one of them was in court yesterday on charges. His defense is basically that he was shocked, SHOCKED that this was going on in his building. Even though one of the women lived in his apartment downtown and he was regularly giving the other women rides to and from the grocery store, etc (they lived on-site).

Along with Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia.  Yes, it's on the map - as an actual geographical region called "East Asia".

I know white folks in America love to think "Asians" are just that Buddhist portion with the so-called yellow skin and slant eyes.  It gets a bit tiresome and annoying to explain to every dumbass hick in this country that is incorrect.

But yes, folks once again, in fact, it includes areas more influenced by Christian or Muslim religion... some with more of an epicanthic fold and others less so.  Some with a fairly dark complexion up to very pale in the northern parts.   And yes, particurly in Southeast Asian countries they tend to intermarry and mix it up a bit.

And FFS, that whole L confused with R sound is really a tiresome joke, but please do post it every freaking time some Asian country comes up ( or whatever you perceive as an East Asian country is).

End rant.

there is really only one way to stop or at least minimize sex slavery. Legalize prostitution. Take the pimps out of the picture. Have prostitutes be their own contractors, pay taxes etc.

I am curious why specifically 'white' folks? blacks and Latinos are even more ignorant of the Asian culture than their white counterparts.

truth. even my wife is baffled that prostitution is illegal. she agrees with me that countries like germany and the netherlands have it right.

and "minimize" is correct...because i could tell that among all the legit clean places in germany, some of those chicks weren't really there on their own free will. seemed mostly to be the foreigners from really far, like the orient or africa. all the europeaners/russians i encountered did indeed seem to be there because they wanted to be.

Bravo Two: It's been long known that the Chinese have had underworld dealings in the Northeast for decades. Sweatshops, sex slaves, drugs, etc.  How is this new or news?

It's not, even to us locals.  Almost all of the "Asian Massage" joints here in VT operate as brothels and have since at least the early 90's when I can recall hearing about them on the news.  Every couple of months the cops would raid them; they'd close, and a few months later a "new" one would open in the same spot.  The last few years they've started turning into a big thing though.  A few years ago there were only a few places I can recall that weren't legit (or at least didn't APPEAR to be legit); but until the big shut down it was like McDonalds, one on every corner.

What makes it interesting (to me at any rate) is it seems like they  all were hit and closed on (what seems like) the same day.  I'm a local trucker so I'm all over the state (well, at least from Northfield / Middlebury to the Canadian border); and it seemed like overnight they all disappeared.  Of course this makes my job more difficult as a (sadly large) number of my customers would use these places as landmarks to help me find their address.

I recall reading an article in the paper a number of years ago where the reporter had managed to gain the trust of a few of the girls, and was shown how they live and such.  20-30 girls living in a 2 bedroom house, which was owned by the same guy they "worked" for.  Passports (if they ever had one) were kept by him for "safety" and they were shuttled to and from the various parlors by him or one of his thugs; never allowed to be on their own etc.

As much as I would prefer prostitution legalized, I don't think legalization would inherently "fix" this.
