wait, there are lego ninja turtles and I'm only hearing about it now?

Lego Ninja Turtles came out in February, I think.

Andy Dwyer as the lead character?  Yes please!

They should have just made a Lego Space movie, not an everything-under-the-sun movie.

They could have fought the evil Blacktron menace.

Well...I'll be seeing this. With my Lego crazy 6 year old son. No problem with that - they are generally pretty good. We already own this one (and the game - which this is basically a shortened telling of):

I scoff at this, as I scoffed at Toy Story.

My boys are playing Lego star wars right now. It is a fun game. I'm not a gamer, but I like it.

serial_crusher: wait, there are lego ninja turtles and I'm only hearing about it now?

They've been out for a while. I've picked up the Sewer Lair set and a couple of the other smaller sets to make up the Turtles, Splinter, Shredder, a few Foot ninjas and a Kra'ang. It's pricey to put together just the right elements for all the major characters, but they're well worth it.

As far as the movie, fark it, I'm in. Looks amusing enough.

There are people selling the individual figures on Amazon (but yeah, that's pricey too.  $4.95 for the figure and $4.99 for shipping?  Um, fark you buddy).  I just ordered the set that has Donatello and Shredder, because that's good enough.

/I'm kind of disappointed that they're based on the currently-running Nickelodeon series.

I wasn't expecting much from that, but found myself laughing out loud a couple times.  And "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" was one of the better animated films in a while ("STEVE!") so I'd be willing to take my kids to this.

i saw this earlier and thought it looked pretty good.
im gonna take my boys to see it. we love building lego stuff.
yes they are teenagers but were all kids at heart

Mine are too young.  I'm hoping for a Duplo movie.

Lego's been doing packs that have 3 or 4 figures and about a couple dozen or so bricks for a small accessory and selling them straight through their online and brick-and-mortar Lego Stores for $15 (for the 3 figure sets) to $20 (for the 4 figure sets). I was kind of hoping they'd do a TMNT one, but no such luck. They'd make a small fortune off the people who will never spend $100+ just to complete the Turtles themselves.

I'll be taking the boy to see this one

"Hey pal, I hate to tell you this but, I don't think you're suppose to be here. Welp, I guess I'm gonna have to report yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu"

I laughed damn hard.

what others have said - The Batman movie has been out for a while and there have been other lego video productions for years now.  besides, my son will be 6 when this comes out and you think there's a snowball's chance in hell I'm not going to be begged to take him every hour on the hour once the marketing campaign comes out?

2013-06-19 10:27:08 AM
I love that the Lego shark was thrown. I hope there are plenty of rare pieces used.

2013-06-19 10:34:38 AM
Ok, I laughed during the trailer when they said "80-something space guy".

Of course, since it was Morgan Freeman, I was fully expecting it to end with "titty sprinkles"

Did they use real Lego, or is it all CGI?

My 16 yr old son showed me the trailer for this yesterday... yes, we're going.

2013-06-19 10:47:29 AM
Bought my son that Lego Batman movie a couple weeks ago, and he's watched it every day since. Showed him this trailer, and he flipped out. So, yeah, I guess we'll be seeing it.

LemSkroob: Did they use real Lego, or is it all CGI?

From what I've read, it's CG, but they wanted it to look like real Lego was used for stop-motion (which would be a little too time prohibitive).

My son just about wet himself when I showed him this trailer. He's a HUGE Lego kid.
If you haven't seen the Lego Star Wars shows on CN, they are pretty funny- they add jokes for the parents, which makes them bearable to watch.

My kids are gonna go ape shiatte at this news. I best keep it a secret till the day before I take them......

Yup...

\I keep a stock of Lego boxes in my closet for days when they're home from school for sick days or snow days...

I'm in.

/1980s Something Space Guy will be the unsung hero.

Glitchwerks: They could have fought the evil Blacktron menace.

Blacktron was a villain? I always played with him as not only a good guy, but THE hero of my whole enormous Lego set!

*Checks Wiki*

MY WHOLE CHILDHOOD WAS A LIE!!!!!!

/Also, the amount of detail on the Wiki entries for Lego sets from 1991 is somewhat disturbing.

If I only had managed to take a picture of the space ship I built many years ago....*sigh*...

Huge thing, something like 2 feet by 2 feet big.

It had landing gear, torpedo launchers, bridge, moveable cannons, shuttle bay with two doors for two shuttles (1 for 2 figures.. the slick "jet" type, and the other for about 4 figures and equipment), a wheeled robot, medical bay, engine room with "warp engine", living quarters, storage, and most of these sections with doors, an airlock, and a ramp (Millennium Falcon type).

When I left my ex, she threw it on the floor destroying it and I wasn't able to find half the pieces (long story).

Rule #1: never stick your dick in crazy
Rule #2: if you've already broken Rule #1, don't tell crazy where your LEGO spaceships are located

It's a slot machine for kids.

fark it! It looks like a fun movie...

Wish it was stop motion, however...

But there is more money to be made by making you buy multiple sets to get all four turtles and other essential characters.

The movie looks promising since everything appears to be made with Lego bricks. I was annoyed by how the games went from having at least some Lego backgrounds in the Star Wars games, to only making what you interact with look like actual bricks in later games.

The Lego video for that White Stripes song took something like six months to film in stop-motion, for a three-minute song.

Even more annoying was the addition of actual speech in the LotR game. I missed the mumbles and guestures instead of dialogue from previous games and it definitely lost something for me. While I would have enjoyed mumble dialogue in a LEGO movie I can understand why they wouldn't do it. Keep it in the games though, it makes them a bit silly which in turn makes them more fun.
