Seems like an odd detail to include. Did it come up in the press conference?

"Chief Wiggum! Chief Wiggum! Over here! Mark Pulitzer, NWF Daily News. Can you elaborate on the type of chocolate milk? Was it pre-mixed, or was this homemade? Was it Quik powder, or chocolate syrup? Hershey's or Bosco?"

"ottoman"

I think they mean coffee table or occasional table.  It had a lid.

Only in Florida would this seem clever in the first place.

"Why do they call it Ovaltine? The mug is round. The jar is round. They should call it Roundtine. That's GOLD, Jerry!"

(does the google...

Hmmm....)

"storage ottoman" = "padded coffee table".  Can you imaging trying to rest your feet on those monstrosities?

How the fark would he climb inside an ottoman - aren't those paired with a chair, and designed for resting your feet on?

Was this guy a midget?
How is it trespassing if the woman let him stay in her apartment?
How big was the glass of chocolate milk?

So many unanswered Qs

Well, maybe.  At one time they had an empire covering huge tracts of land.

Perhaps the woman should not have given the officer to search her apt in the first place.

What an ottoman with chocolate milk on top might look like. Why is there chocolate milk on top? Why that's nobody's business but the turks.

She probably thought having a glass of chocolate milk sitting on top would make it less likely they'd look in there? Considering she took out all the things that would be stored inside but failed to hide them it was the equivalent of standing with your back to the closet door insisting, "Nope, nobody in here."

It could be clever if you pull it off right. See, while they all search in Constantinople, you'd be hiding in Istanbul.

One woman calls the cops "Dude who's supposed to stay away from here is in our apartment complex. Send an officer"
Then she points out the other woman, walking on the stairs - "check her apartment!"

What kind of cat-fight love-triangle thing is going on here?

Nobody's asked how a full glass of chocolate milk could rest undisturbed on the ottoman when the person who ostensibly placed it there is  within said ottoman. That's the important thing here. Did he have an accomplice? Supernatural intervention?

"The officer noted a large ottoman sitting in front of the couch, and several items that might have been stored in an ottoman sitting on the couch."

What kind of things are things that would be stored in an ottoman?

AngryJailhouseFistfark: what an ottoman that people don't see might look like:

Frickin LOL

But seriously: and several items that might have been stored in an ottoman sitting on the couch.

WTHell? For one thing, most ottomans are designed to be large footstools. Not storage furnature
And just what the fricken hell constituents "items that might have been stored in an ottoman"?
I can see a bedside table having items such as condoms, Readers Digest, AstroGlide, laying on the bed. And a cop, figuring someone emptied the drawer on the bed.
But I just don't see any particular items that they say would be stored in an ottoman and were emptied out onto a couch.
But just because, again, most ottomans are not made to be storage containers.

FTA: When the officer arrived he saw a woman coming down the stairs. She immediately went back up the stairs and entered an apartment. The person who called police directed the officer to the same apartment. The officer knocked, and after several seconds the woman answered. She denied the man was in the apartment, and gave the officer permission to search her apartment.

It doesn't take Hercule Poirot to figure out the woman who ran back up to the apartment to help him hide was his accomplice.
