Attention : work in food service and kitchens to be treated like crap by lunatics.

I had to read the article because I was wondering why former employees of Amy's Baking Company were suing Gordon Ramsay.

2013-06-18 04:23:01 PM
At least Ramsay admitted to management problems at Fat Cow and indicated they had been resolved. Amy and her thug/mobster husband admitted to the abuse of the employees, blamed the employees for it and continued the abuse as part of standard operating procedure.

Amy's Baking Company used scented candles in their restaurant. My crappy pizza tasted like lavender.

I should have just gone to Pita Jungle.

wait are you trying to tell me that chef's that run Michelin starred restaurants might be crazy and abusive?

Even with a preview, that last part slipped through.. Just..ignore that.

So you can be sued for letting yourself be treated like crap?

/subby probably won't get this...

I still surprised that not only do the networks keep producing these reality shows featuring such horrible/rude people, but that it draws an audience.

I would expect a perfectionist to expect perfection from his employees.  To do otherwise is to fail miserably and induce a perfect storm of ass reaming.

2013-06-18 04:45:36 PM
"We are aware there was a problem with previous management which has since been changed, but this is totally unacceptable if any truth to it," Ramsay's rep said.

Um, not only not have anything to do with Ramsay personally but the company seems to be acting pretty decently. It will get settled amicably long before it goes to court. Despite his TV shtick Ramsay is fairly well known as a good boss.

That made me laugh. Well played

I would go to work for Gordon in a heartbeat, just because he never plays passive-aggressive games.  He tells it like it is, do a good job, and he notices.  Do a shiat job, and you will hear about it.

I'm still wondering why Gordon is the one being sued if he was also the one being treated like crap.

Somebody mentioned in a previous thread that Ramsay admitted that, if he really yelled at his employees like he did on Hell's Kitchen, nobody would work for him.

Has anything new happened with Amy's Baking Co lately? I last checked in on them when they were playing the "Oh golly gee, we didn't say those horrible things on Facebook, we were so definitely hacked!" game.

Only things I can find are that they took down their FB page, then started and removed a second one, and that on their new page they're playing to the 2007 Internet crowd by posting a RickRoll and (apparently in response to prank calls) stating that they have Battletoads.

Another thing to note is that the Ramsey on the american shows is way worse than the British shows. They make him play it up.

Sad thing were the Fox Execs who sent the C&D out to kill all the momentum. Should have let them talk and sue for libel.

He's repeatedly stated it's done for the cameras and has told people numerous times that is not how you should behave if you're running a kitchen.  My favorite episodes of Kitchen Nightmares are the ones when he goes back to restaurants he's helped out to check on things.  You can see he genuinely cares for people and wants them to succeed.

I'd pay to watch somebody take the pencil from behind Ramsay's ear and do a Joker trick on him.

You think so?  I've seen both version of Kitchen Nightmares and I think he handles Americans too nicely.  In Britain, he's in their face, calling them out for the idiots & losers they are.  In America, he softballs the insults, no matter how well-deserved, and only reacts aggressively if they do.

This is all true, but there are moments in Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares where he seems to be sincerely, genuinely, pissed off. They're hard to distinguish, but it happens.

Yeah, but those moments of rage tend to be related directly to something Ramsey has found(raw food, filthy cooking areas, etc) as opposed to just screaming at people for the sake of it.

And he usually only starts the screaming when they start making excuses for it. I have yet to see an episode where he screamed at somebody who didn't deserve to be screamed at for one reason or another.

The difference between the UK and US version of Kitchen Nightmares is amazing.

No, the sad thing were all the mouth breathing farktards who rushed over to try the restaurant after they became famous for treating their employees like shiat.

And some idiots wonder why "they can just get a new job and the market will magically solve everything" is not a sufficient substitute for labor protection laws...

You could watch the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares and get a real sense for what you should -- and definitely shouldn't -- do when running a restaurant.

The US version is just Ramsay screaming at idiots.

There's an actual kitchen that prepares food for the diners.  I took cooking lessons from a gal who ran that kitchen for a couple years.
